I mean, what if we come to learn that UNC Athletics was tapping into their endowment, or getting sizable cash from main campus? That's something out of Whit's control.

I'm sure Whit can do better, but I also find it hard to believe that there's $15m+ under the couch cushions, and if he just spent more time working the phones, he'd be able to shake it out of people.

Another thing I often wrestle with is that the primary benefit of giving to VT Athletics is season tickets. Blacksburg is so tough to get to (and find a place to stay) that it's tough to incentivize people to give just to see a few more W's. I saw the comment below about VT Grads at FAANG (is it MAANG now? I digress...) - Even if you have a grad making $400k at google, living in the bay area, how are you going to convince them to drop 5-figures on the Hokies? It's going to cost them another $3k+ just to spend a game weekend in Blacksburg.

TL;DR - I think 'we need to fire Whit and that will fix things' is drastically oversimplifying the situation. I'm very onboard with the idea that Whit doesn't get to make a third football hire, but I think we all agree that VT is more than just a head coaching hire a way from solving our athletic department problems/challenges.

I'm worried as well. Pry was able to sell a rebuild and show that the program was heading in the right direction last year. After this year, it looks like his vision is stuck in the mud with zero momentum. With a lack of player development and now some unexpected portal losses on the roster, the shine is off on Pry. I'm not sure what selling point he has for top talent at the moment.

For rural folks in southern, particularly southwestern NC yes. And Chapel Hill out towards Greensboro as well. This is where most of the Wal Mart fans live. Raleigh (NC State), Eastern NC (ECU), Winston Salem (Virginia Tech), and the mountains (App) are all split with Carolina being the 2nd or 3rd most popular team.

Actually might be a blessing in disguise to get some young guys reps, he has built a decent roster behind the starters, in the bowl we'll get a good chance to evaluate where we're at (unless Minnesota is losing all of their guys).

Offense we'll get to see:
QB: Pop, Davi
RB: Coney, Mason
WR: Greene, Adams, Wiggins, Fitzgerald, Heath
OL: Lynch, Hammer, Ricard

DE: Stevens, Abbey, Dandy
DT: Copeland, Laws, Johnson, Hanchuck
LB: Ballance
CB: Lovett, Clarke, Johnson, K. Williams, T Williams
S: Alves, Fleming, Jenkins

Not exactly loaded, but a good opportunity to check progress and see if in fact Pry is raising the ceiling here

Mentally this one doesn't bother me. I had already had him gone for next season by way of the draft so losing him to the portal really is a wash

As a matter of fact, a fellow I used to fish with here just got into a big bunch of trouble after losing his temper with a fellow that was fishing his cove. Ended up with the Sheriff and VMRC charging him with six counts of various charges, including assault, and impeding the legal right to fish. One of his charges was a felony, but his plea deal got it reduced. Ended up with a $5,000 fine and 12 months in jail, suspended, and I'm certain his lawyer wasn't cheap. Expensive lesson for losing your temper, right

Not sure how you feel about the guy you used to fish with, but I'm glad to see he was reprimanded. I'm tired of this fishing around docks and being yelled at. If the owner is out on the dock, not even fishing, I steer clear. But so many in NC in one particular stretch will come out and say shit. I know its bad in Mobjack. That woman with the old dock in your neck of the woods is a See You Next Tuesday.

CAN VIRGINIA TECH EVER BE GOOD AGAIN?

I wondered this as a student during Beamer's last year. Nearly a decade later, I'm wondering the same thing.

FSU couldn't keep their 5 🌟 freshman QB

Now retread Castellanos is going to be their QB.

it's not actually, it's fairly benign

maybe it's a misunderstanding of the nil/portal hell we all live in

I know the other day I said in didn't think we could handle coaching turn over like Bama, and while I still think that, or staff should be almost completely new every ~3 years if we want you be good. Either we win and they're poached or we lose and they lose. And staff might stay for kids and other reasons but if no one is trying to poaching or staff the they should proably should be at VT. This exhausting for fans, coaches, and the athletic director, but if we want to win, we have change.

If no coaching changes happen this year then Pry should be fired for anything less than 8 wins. I like the guy, it way harder to say that then with Fuente, but Pry can't recruit or coach.

Alright Frank, come out of retirement for one last go...

This is why I don't buy the notion that Virginia Tech is too poor to do anything. There is money out there. Virginia Tech is a very good school and I don't believe the entire alumni base is hurting for cash. Our AD is either misallocating resources or failing to generate donations. Either way it's unacceptable

He doesn't have to sell anything. He's a living legend with seven superbowl rings and connections. Chapel Hill is intent on hiring big flashy names even if it's selling their soul...

Interesting move by UNC to setup a professional organization to catch back up to the fact that CFB is no longer even pretending to be amateur and get in the new game.
