We have had a few good ones- Darrisaw, Teller, Nijman, Hoffman, etc. And we have tried seemingly everything- big name OL coach in Rudolph, Proven P4 guy in Stacy Searls, Vance Vice actually recruiting that position vs. a "territory", zone blocking/man blocking etc. Beamer was successful with the Joe Bugle Redskins model- just draft/find mean guys that can move and teach them how to be OL.. We've tried all of that. I think that the OL looks worse because of the scheme too. We never have a good quick passing game for example. Never.

Have you watched this season? Everyone is struggling to get good OL. OU can barly field 4 decent linemen. Bama, even UGA are struggling to field more than 5. OSU loses two of their starting 5 and they lose to 6-6 Michigan scoring a single offensive touchdown.
Everyone is struggling to find linemen, and the portal + NIL has meant that no single team is stockpiling more than 5-6 quality OL. It's why there's a bidding war for Chaplain right now.
We are not..by any means...tons of schools are struggling and it's getting worse with the extra scholarships. OLine is one of the most injured positions so schools are piling them in.
I think our biggest issue has been scheme fit personnel and development.

You shouldn't. no more player loyalty, so why should fans be. The "we want guys who want to be here" days are over.
You should only care if we are willing to go all in and buy a team to win. As we saw this year, there's no guarantee that 18-24 or 30-year-olds (I hear ya, DC) will get you more than six wins.

There are reasons why a program goes 12-12 in their last 24... and this might be the biggest one.. You can't pass block, so you ram your QB into the line on 3rd and 6 and he gets hurt. You play your backup- on a mid/rebuilding team- probably not Joe Montana- and you lose games. You can't pick up stunts, so you lose early in the year to P4 teams and once film gets out, you lose ACC games. It is a HUGE issue the G5 type talent we have in the OL room. And of course we didn't really address it in the 2025 HS class we just signed.
It will never happen, but I would love for anOSU to come forward and say that due to the disrespectful way our players were involved in a brawl on the field, they are forfeiting their right to participate in a bowl this year. Imagine the chaos that would cause.
Just think that beating Bama is the reason why two bad programs are going bowling.
We all know Bob Schick is not the level of talent we need to have a successful O Line, but if the Moore and Chaplin don't come back he will be the 2nd best lineman on the roster.

Johnny Garrett - starting ready
Bob Schick - mediocre starter
Layth Ghannam - career backup
Brody Meadows - career backup
Montavious Cunningham - minimal snaps
Hannes Hammer - minimal snaps
Aidan Lynch - r-Fresh
Tommy Ricard - r-Fresh
Webb Davidson - r-Fresh
His first run there has proved to be the exception, not the rule - Look at how he did and Michigan and Arizona (one good season) then total dumpster. Fuck Rich Rod, they will finish 8th in the big 12 every year.

This. And to the market rates for starters vs backups, that is all relative to a particular team. We may have a player that we don't see the ROI on, but another team may see potential or have a need and be willing to pay starter money for someone who would only be a depth/rotational player here. We shouldn't and wouldn't pay to match that offer for a depth player in that case. Would be nice to have them, but not if the return isn't there.
This seems like even more of an indictment of the Linebacker and star coaches (I think stars are under Quinn, right?) in terms of recognizing the strengths of the players, and if they aren't playing people at positions they "get" better. If they're playing Lawson at the wrong position just because he's built a certain way is idiotic.
NIL is 100% pay for play. Can we stop with the pre-tense? Triumph gives kids a figure... they do not and will not match it to Shelor motor park paying for commercials. That's why they are called "collectives"... Its simply pay for play
This seems like you're assuming a backup will want almost as much as a starter. Theoretically, NIL is for name, image, and likeness, which you would be getting paid for the use of those respective things, like if an apparel company put your name on a jersey. They aren't doing that for backups. I'd guess that applies pretty much anywhere. Unless you're a 5 star QB that is next in line at one of the top 5-10 schools, backups probably are getting next to nothing, if not nothing at all lot of schools outside the top few.
At minimum, Pennix was a really good gunner on the punt team this year
We are currently being told that guys like Pennix, Madison, and Bradshaw can't play here and were being passed- on a 6-6 team that can't beat Duke. I call 100% BS. If that was true we would be winning, not treading water. If it is true, we suck at player evaluation.

I have little pity for misery in Morgantown. My classmates didn't appreciate my selecting Virginia Tech over WVU and were vocal about it so now I enjoy the chaos there immensely.
