Cut a bunch of the BS bowls...go back to the "good 'ol days" of named bowls (not branded)...e.g. Sugar, Fiesta, Rose, etc. By lowering the number of bowls, you lower the number of teams going to bowls. For those not picked by those "elite" bowls, allow them to have roughly the same number of extra practices and perhaps a team trip to somewhere fun as the reward.
No need to have embarrassingly empty stadium games branded by some random company for 2-3 years then rebrand again, again, again...
At least those 6-6, 7-5, etc. teams will get those extra practices that coaches always cream their pants about, but the fans & companies won't be wasting their time and money on something that will be forgotten in a few weeks.

Right and I am bound by my salary, terms of employment, state employment laws, NDA's, federal law etc. There is precedent- AKA- real life - that regulates the wild west. But we can't have rules for major college football
Those orgs have antitrust exemptions, unions, and collective bargaining agreements
the easy fix is limited transfers and a player pay cap. Crazy? nope they have both in the NFL and NBA- so don't give me the free to work/movement nonsense. Put in pay limits and contracts and be done with it.
I think that's the only way to level the playing field. With that being said, I'm also assuming the potential for NIL as a supplementary source will continue to exist as a means to keep the rich even richer.
I'd love to see some level of compensation for programs when players go elsewhere. Shouldn't a team be eligible for some sort of payment when a player is developed for 2-3 years and then bolt for greener pastures? Pipe dream, I know...

"Maybe an appeal for more support" yes and the bubble can't burst soon enough... VT fans are sick of paying thousands for 6-6 football. Whit and Sands need to concentrate on how to be semi-relevant without begging for thousands from fans at every turn.

Ish Findlayter, an undersized DT, is leaving VT for the portal.
I would have to see them to make that assessment. If they commit I will take a look. But when it comes to linemen on either side of the ball, the eyes tell a better story than PFF/stats.

# | VT, UVa, UNC and NC State fined and reprimanded by the ACC for weekend fights I wish Sands, Whit and Pry would turn around and tell the ACC to fuck off. Then send them a memo with a fine for $10 million for the refs being so bad, for so many years, particularly the Miami call this season, stating that poor refereeing "tarnished the hard fought play between these academic institutions."
I think it was quotes from Whit and Sands during a Board of Visitors meeting. I can't remember where I originally saw it but google found it on TSL linked below.

And we won a lot of one score games that year.(6-1-1)- they still allowed ties back then; also capacity at lane was 50k; we usually only sold out UVA and WVU at home then. And look! we won at the Carrier Dome, too!
(Note the Temple game was a Hokie loss but was forfeited by Temple two years later after it was discovered that Temple RB Paul Palmer "had received an interest free cash loan of $5000 from sports agent Norby waters before the 1986..season... as well as monthly payments of $200 during the season"- including that as an ironic footnote given the current NIL environment!)

I don't follow UVA recruiting or anything, but as I was watching them I thought- I hope Elliott has a plan, because they just tanked this game. They never looked like they were trying to win. I guess he wrote the game/season off? It was sad really. They don't want to beat VT anymore?

Tough cycle to break - Sponsors make money, bowl organizers make money, ESPN makes money, coaches don't get fired typically if they make a "bowl", Hotels and airlines like them, etc etc. A lot of things to break before you go back to a handful of meaningful/, major bowls again.
