There were areas where the program needed to modernize and he didn't exactly go out of his way to make sure those needs were being addressed.

Laid off in March by a company I had been at for 13 years because they were prioritizing money over people despite the fact they had record profits 3 years running. Got a job offer last week for a role that is essentially a promotion. Which is great.
But that doesn't change the fact I got to see firsthand just how cold, callous, and unforgiving this country is right now when someone deems you not worthy of being a part of the game anymore. 500 applications sent and maybe 20 call backs and maybe 5 of those advanced past a phone screening. (If you are in the same boat right now all I can say is be prepared to answer any recruiter who reaches out, they're the only way you will advance to interviews. Stay positive, good things will happen).
I don't want the sport that I love to resemble that, and right now we are on a fast track to what is effectively a mass layoff of everyone who isn't in the P2. And once it goes to that point, everything that was once good about the sport dies and will never come back.

It's bad enough that the little guys get absolutely crushed in nearly every aspect of their lives because the rich run everything and see us plebes as little more than disposable meat bags who exist to make them more money. The last fucking thing I want is for the little enjoyment I have on the weekends to be overwhelmed with that same mindset. We go down that path and not only will I permanently turn my back on everything related to college sports but I'll actively rooting for it's complete and utter downfall, not giving one ounce of a shit who goes bankrupt seeing their financial livelihoods destroyed in the process.

Is he part of the problem? Sure! Is getting rid of him some cure-all? Nope. Is getting rid of him probably helpful? Sure! Is it THE first place to start? Maybe? Is it a guarantee things would be better? Nope.
Exactly, I get a lot of comments about this but I love college football because it's the only sport that is about life. The lessons you learn like no matter how good you are the other guys name might just matter more. It's a fantastic microcosm of life. Other sports care about being fair and that's never been CFB thing.

He was one of the few in Whit's inner circle that helped hire Pry and he also had a hand in scuttling Fuente. So he's in the game, but I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Ultimately though, it all rolls up to Whit. I think even if John was gone, Whit would still fumble the ball.
Tom Herman I thought was a homerun...he was my #1 (yet unrealstic) option to replace Beamer. Even after not having much success at Texas, I thought he would prove himself and get back to P4....not so much.
Mike Houston was another name that got bantered about as a possibility to VT. ECU still paying for firing Ruffin McNeill..have been floundering ever since.
Just shows, hiring a Coach is hard and real sustainable success requires the right coach, resources, culture, administrative support...and, oh yeah, lots of $$$ helps too.

I arrived Thursday evening and was able to procure five pints of sand fleas and 10 quarts of green crabs for tautog fishing. With rain approaching, I chose not to fish the nighttime tide change and instead chose sleep.
Friday- I had a work call in the morning, so I got to the bridge at noon. I immediately got into a hot tautog bite, getting two 16 inchers and 20+ shorts. I prefer to use sand fleas, and my buddies were not arriving until the evening, so I burned through two pints of fleas in two hours, all on outgoing tide. While I was there, two astute fishermen were casting into an outgoing current with large swimbaits and reeling up the slack as they drifted back to the bridge. They were fishing a very specific moment in the tide cycle- the time of low tide on the tide chart, even though the tide didn't slack for another two hours-each day, and each day they caught a couple of 30 inch class striped bass and then left. They were using silver/white colored swim baits and I just had nighttime colors (blurple, black demon, pink) and I couldn't replicate their success. However, they got on them every day at the exact same window of tide. I have never had success there in the daytime for stripers, so it was humbling to witness.
My buddy Jiro arrived at sunset, and we set up for fishing the slack to incoming transition. We had a brief flurry. Jiro got a 25 3/4 incher, a 24 and a 23 in about 30 minnow. I got a 24 where I botched the photo and a 21 incher in the same window. My fish came on a 1 1/2 oz swimbait jighead and a pink shad assasain. Jiro got his on a Z-Man Diezel minnow.
Saturday we started at 8AM, and it was tough fishing with a sustained 18 mph NW wind all day. We started with togs, but while we got good numbers (20+ each), the fish ran small and were difficult to find. We saw some really big ones caught by locals who had crabs on heavy bottom rigs well away from structure, but we didn't replicate their success. I caught more six inch togs than I knew existed. When the "striper window" came, the same two gentlemen came out on the bridge, and I was ready with a white Tsunami swim bait. Once again, they got a couple of fish and a keeper, but I didn't get a hit. For the record, I hate fishing a heavy outgoing... the feel just isn't there. That evening, Jiro and I tried the same strategy for stripers on the slack to incoming transition, but the fish no-showed.
Sunday was beautiful, but my back and feet were killing me after two straight days walking miles up and down the bridge. The fishing was slow for me (we used up the fleas, and my buddies had a better feel with crabs as bait than me.) I caught a few shorts, and Jiro and Peter each got a keeper while I was there. I had a long drive back, so I headed out after noon. They each got two more keepers each at the slack-incoming transition right before sunset, and they reported that the same two striper guys got into a hot bite and landed a dozen fish with a half dozen being keeper sized during the outgoing to slack transition just before sunset.
For me, I ended up with 44 tautog, two striped bass, one strawberry bass, and more annoying baby black sea bass than I can imagine. We burned through over $100 in live bait. I still hate green crabs.
No problem, the height might need some adjusting every so often to make reading it easier.
I put her in as a strong Q2, but not quite making it into Q3.
