I realize that being in the ACC it will never happen cause they will sell the tickets for too much $...but I wish it was like it was when I was a student in the 1980s. The students got 4500 of the 10,000 seats -pretty much the entire (tennis court) west side. No- it didn't sell out every game- probably 6500-7500 for the not great opponents, 9000 or so for the decent teams and sellouts for Louisville, Memphis State(would have sold out UVA but they always played on neutral courts-Richmond or Roanoke-back then0.
Even in the best atmospheres now, I've never heard it anywhere near as loud as the win over Memphis State on Feb 8, 1986, 766-72 wn- so loud you couldn't even HEAR the band playing. UVA had beaten #1 UNCearlier that week; Memphis was #2 poised to be #1 the following day. The TD headline Sunday was 'Welcome to Virginia-check your undefeated record at the border!"
Also the only time saw something happen in a basketball game- as usually happens, the teams -especially Memphis-were taking forever to get back on the floor after timeouts. After one particularly egregious delay after a made VT basket, the Hokies were back on the floor but Memphis was still in their huddle. The referee got tired of waiting, placed the ball on the floor on the baseline and started his 5 second count. After 2 seconds, Memphis realized what was happening and scrambled to try and get out and throw it in but didn't make it; 5 second call and Hokie possession!
Would love to see that happen consistently...in both basketball AND football. Maybe games would actually end on time more often!

#31 for their team was by far their best player and the refs were letting her muscle around. I think Ramiya got as much play time as she did because 31 couldn't shove her around.
This exactly but imagine the meltdown from "donors" if Tech decided to do this with Cassell Guard.
Seeing as she probably grew up on campus and in the football operations, she probably was very qualified to organize recruiting visits. On the flip side of most arguments of her being a crony, she likely had a better than most chance of getting her dad to change with the times.
Agree, by all accounts was a really great part of the team and will be missed.

Sure, but the few who were there were singing like the Hoos in Hooville right up until Klubnik punched them in the mouth with that touchdown run.

The Director of On-Campus Recruiting for Football will coordinate all prospect visits to the Virginia Tech campus including game days, junior days, prospect camps, official visits, and unofficial visits throughout the year. Assist with the admissions process for prospective student athletes.
It just seems to me that criticisms of her dad aside (and you may be right about those), she was surely not a significant part of what ails Virginia Tech football, and we should all be thanking her for her support for the program, and wishing her the best.
If we're going to level criticism, let's make sure it's laser-focused, and in the right direction.

And I thought OUR OL was bad- both QBs were getting killed(sacks/hurries, and smashing hits even when they got their throws off.

We will never be a serious program if we cannot change with the times. The Beamer way worked in its era, but that era is long past and we have to adapt to survive.
It's infuriating that the one man who has blocked change the most in Blacksburg still has as much say as he does. I'm real tired of the old boys club in Merryman. Real change cannot happen for VT athletics as long as Ballein still has a controlling say.
Most places that do also allow the students to have the first few rows over the length of the court, so it's not like the band is displacing them. Even at Maryland, who has probably the most similar student section to ours, students still have about 10 rows around the court, so the band location isn't an issue.
A lot. Just googled a handful, and all of them are behind the baseline/hoop. Maryland, Duke, Louisville, NC State, Indiana, Ohio State...pretty much a 100% hit rate on searching.
Absolutely a great career move for her and shouldn't be anything personal from anyone.
However, when you zoom out and look at the macro issue, especially now with some of the dirty laundry about John hanging around and sandbagging the previous staff, the issue to me is just cronyism/nepotism. When you see a Beamer holdover getting that position of power and wielding his influence in the background, somehow his wife is the most qualified person to be MBB Chief of Staff and sort of/kind of works under him, somehow his daughter is the most qualified to be a major football recruiting director...I mean maybe they are, but it sure has the appearance of impropriety/nepotism from the outside. I don't know if this is a cause or a symptom of a really small town mindset AD department at VT. But I can see why people are rightfully not happy about the situation considering the direction our programs are heading.
There's just a very small circle of people with too much power and influence over VT athletics and it's got to change IMO.

Fuente wasn't a good recruiter. A good recruiter builds a complete roster. Fuente's recruiting rankings were propped up by over-recruiting skill positions and large classes.
Pry has at least made efforts to fill gaps in our roster. Fuente seemed totally oblivious to those gaps.
Yeah agree. This is a pretty big loss for the recruiting staff.
