While I was born on the Naval Academy in Annapolis, my father was from Tennessee and my momma was from Charleston, SC., so I can relate. I love the state of Tennessee, and was once in the room with 11 related men with my same names, but I only knew one, my daddy. Spent a lot of family time in my younger years visiting in Charleston, and wish I could spend more time now that I am old enough to appreciate it. This is a fun thread.

It always sounded to me like Lefty had multiple plays that he could run from each set ... but for some reason I still don't understand, his players could not execute what he called. Either the vocabulary was too confusing or the plays were too complex or there were too many to keep straight or something. I'm not sure the difference was in the play calling as much as it was the coaching on how to execute the play calls.
I suppose that depends on the policies of the individual university regarding changes of major and transfers, but to avoid that loophole, the student can change their major once enrolled, therefore they have to transfer.
The benefit, as I see it, of an early signing period is it prevents hasty decisions. The school has to truly commit to the recruit by offering a signable LOI. The recruit will not jump into a decision too quickly, realizing there are no more soft commits. Either you sign on the dotted line or you wait until you're sure. There will be fewer offers going out from the coaches, which de-escalates the arms race of collecting offers, so you know that if you have an offer, it's legit, and if you don't get an offer, you're not likely to get one.

What if the student changes his intended major...at the last minute...to something your school doesn't offer? I predict we'd see a lot of very unique degrees pop up at big football schools to exploit that loophole.
"Well, I was very committed to playing football at Tech, but then I realized that my true calling is Oblong Stuffed Animal Hide studies and Tech just doesn't offer that degree. Alabama, on the other hand, has the top program in the country..."

Not to get political, but I would assume that there is no arguing that Hillary Clinton is usually not a very humorous person. However, I actually laughed out loud at this point during the debate. Her timing was spot on.
So long as he isn't on the line or covered (wideout or another player on the line outside of him), he's eligible.
