Orlando makes a much sense as putting the ACC championship at the Meadowlands in Jersey. Far away from the vast majority of the schools in the ACC.
I honestly would much rather have seem them make a deal with Burton and used the BMS again.
Almost all of the South Main area condo's are within a three minute walk to a BT bus stop. I lived in one for most of my time at Tech.
Orlando is also a destination outside of the game. You've got Disney and Universal, which are both awesome at Christmastime, tons and tons of lodging, lots of other attractions, and you're a 90 minute drive to Daytona. I'd love to make the ACCCG the cornerstone of a week on Orlando.
Bud has done just fine against Fedora in the last 3 years. We had some assignment/alignment busts that lead to their scores last year and they still only scored 24 points (wasn't a catch in OT) so I'm not worried about Bud's ability to counter a spread. Bud has consistently put our players in the right positions against the spread, but at some point, the individuals have to make plays in space. Those one on one situations can be the difference between message boards erupting in a meltdown over the defense and an elite showing by Bud's group.
yes, but then LOLUVa wouldn't be able to participate because it could potentially be an unfair home field advantage. /s
I think if anyone's going to have some inside info on this type of offense it'll be our CB coach Brian Mitchell. He's been working for these Air Raid coaches for years. He's been on the staffs of Mike Leach, Ruffin McNeil and Dana Holgorsen. Hell, he's been coaching in the Big XII and pretty much every offense in the conference is an uptempo spread.
I think he was brought in to face guys like Larry Fedora, Robert Anae, Dino Babers, Dana Holgorsen, etc. I have to imagine after the Tulsa bowl game Bud was thinking, "I gotta get a hold of these offenses. This is crazy." I was very encouraged by the way VT stomped out ECU's offense and we can do it again to UNC.
I would hope that UNC wins, only for our future strength of schedule. The eye-test says otherwise though. I think FSU has better talent.

Agree. Also ECU has the advantage of familiarity with our personnel, our schemes (at least on D), and Lane Stadium, which is something that rotating OOC opponents do not build. That fact isn't often discussed but it certainly increases their odds and is basically gifted to them for an unknown reason.
At least ODU gives us another way to get recruits to see VT football. So I'd like to see USF/UCF/FIU/anybody from a bigger recruiting pipeline if we have to have a decade long scheduling partner
The ACC could have put a decent football game with 2 real football teams in front of a crowd in Lane Stadium north.
correct, there are tons of places to live. You can live close to campus or you can live somewhere relatively cheap. There are always tons of empty units in the complexes off south main (towards ellet road), but these aren't terribly convenient. Then there's the edge, right across price's fork, and those are crazy expensive. The new units near the university city mall look to be pricey as well. Not sure how steep all the units they're building across from plantation road are. If you don't mind the commute, there is abundant cheap housing in the people farm in Christiansburg between the high school and cambria street.
That's too bad, but better than Jax.
Imagine if they used ACC schools to host the championship game. Rotational would be tough, because you can't really ever have a championship in one of the participants home.
I think the consistent swap between Chestnut Hill and Charlottesville under the pretense that the worst team in the ACC got to host the championship that season. Put the ACC championship off a week and have #6 Coastal vs #6 Atlantic duke it out for the embarrassment of the being crowned the ACC bums. BC vs LolUVA every season.
Yeah, an enrollment of 50k for a university is complete big boy status. Academically, it would be great for the school, especially if we're able to do this while continuing to raise the standard with the school, and not devaluing the degree. You're talking legitimate world class institution level at that point.
Athletically, 50k brings you into the discussion for becoming a legitimate elite level program, if only because of the sheer number of alumni the school will have, and if you have a good fundraising infrastructure in place, money will no longer be an issue. Athletically, its the worst nightmare of just about everyone else in our region, as we'd become a dominant university for the area, seeing the alumni and fan base overwhelm the region. And with a student body of that size, with the number of alumni we'll be pumping out every year, you'll have no choice but to expand Lane and build a larger venue than Cassell.
I don't know what to think.
I'm just going to trudge through BYE week, drive to Chapel Hill next Saturday, score some scalper tix, and yell a lot on 3rd down.

Orlando makes sense in terms of weather, availability, size of stadium and money the conference can make. All of those things were talked about constantly on the conference call a couple weeks ago.
Yeah it would be a close trip for Miami and FSU but I don't see either of those teams winning their division.
My guess is it'll be Clemson vs VT..

# | What other Cities could the ACC move the Conference Championship Game to. Agree. I would have tried to get it in DC. Centrally located, easy to get there. Would guess more alumni (from all schools) are there than any other city (hoops tourney certainly supports that theory).

This has probably been answered in the past, but can we get out of this series if we wanted to? Is there a contract buyout? I can't imagine we'd cancel without having new contracts lined up.
Ugh. Terrible choice as far away as possible for all but 2 teams in the entire conference.
That would be a big NO! We don't have squat. City stadium might hold 12,000 and is an absolute dump the UofR stadium is nice but so small. Richmond never attracts anything because of ...well the city.
