Much, much prefer the college rule, even when it applies to situations like this. Hits to the head must be eliminated from football.

One football recruit was 4* 2018 TE James Mitchell. My high school plays his high school every year and over a 6 game series, it's been decided by a total of 13 points, with the last 4 games being decided on the last play of the game.

These were guys that all came to Tech because Loeffler had an actual offensive system with the ability to get guys open and stretch the field to open the running game. Before Loeffler came on board we were struggling to recruit talent on the offensive side of the ball. Recruits had picked up on the fact that Stinespring's offense was just a grab-bag of elements that worked fine in isolation but didn't add up to a cohesive system... Just because Moorehead recruited Phillips and Ford (oh look at that, WR coach recruiting WR's) doesn't mean Loeffler didn't have a hand in it.
Now, sure did Loeffler struggle to implement that system in an effective way? Sure. But it was a legit system that was light years ahead of what we had before.

# | Hokies get "doughnut" on defense, offense breaks out in big way to blank Boston College To be fair, when Lefty had plenty of time to prepare for a game, the offense looked pretty good. See Ohio State both times (before Brewer got hurt in 2015), Cincinnati 2014, and Tulsa 2015.
I think Lefty was his own worst enemy, though. He made things way too complicated for most college players. He was also a little too stubborn and dead set on his original game plan. If Motley had stayed in for the 2014 Wake Forest game, we could have won that game at least 3-0.
Don't get me wrong, Lefty was pretty bad most of the time, but I do think he has a good football mind.
Lefty inherits the angst and schadenfreude that is rightly reserved for Stiney. It is what it is. We will never get the chance to vent our frustrations against Stiney, because he will never be an OC for an FBS program again.
There is no denying, we were a better program after Lefty than before. But this fanbase has a LOT of pent up rage that dates back to the early years of Stiney's OC career. We needed to vent that. Lefty is the scapegoat.

# | Virginia Tech Sings Tech Triumph Following 49-0 Win Over Boston College That video was truly amazing. The players are buying into the program and Fuente. This video and all the times all the players would run up to the stands waving their hands up to get the crowd pumped up after a big play just kept on giving me goosebumps.
I know its only 3 games (and should be 3 wins) under Fuente, but I think we are seeing something special in the making.
I literally LOLed when Loeffler called a poorly executed screen on 3rd and long. It went for 2 yards of course, and they punted the following play.
This always gets a leg from me.
Frank willingly chose about 15 years of Stiney, OCain and then Loeffler. Love the man, but when it comes to offense, I have to say I'm not going to go by what Frank would do.

Also our blocking on the perimeter was so much better. Bucky looked great even though he left a few catches on the field. It also seemed like we ran fewer true bubble screens and more swings off the jet sweep motion, and it worked!!! It worked so well that when Evans faked the swing pass and tucked it, he ran through the defense like it was Swiss cheese. This was just one well schemed effort by CBC. Let's call him an upgrade.

Bottom line, it won't be easy, and we'll have to capitalize on any ball they give us.
I can't disagree with this targeting call. I've seen others I disagreed with, but this one meets the 3rd bullet point criterion from this writeup.
I don't think Gaines had any bad intent, but Gaines should have made a better attempt at hitting him lower. The initial point of contact was the helmet, though the would-be tackler was fully upright. Even though it was a blindside hit, if it had been a little lower this would have been a legal block.
It's unfortunate that he'll miss the first half of the next game, but I have to believe that this rule (and enforcement) will lead to a safer sport and fewer concussions.
