I always enjoy the opponents' perspective. Interesting to see he's calling for a 17-point win. I'm not confident that VT will come out on top, but I think we've got a better chance than most give us. Either way, I stick by my prediction that VT covers. This game, with all of the questions that both teams legitimately have, seems like one that will shake out as something like 27-20.
30-13...meh. No matter who wins I think it's by 5 points or less.

I hope we can stop their run game and get a pick or two in the passing game. Some years back, I remember seeing a T-shirt at Lane that I really liked:

With Bud's D, the answer to that question used to be "No, not hardly" but in more recent years it's been more like "Yes, quite well, thank you very much." Let's hope the 2016 version of our D is more like the first answer!

Thanks for sharing, I always appreciate the opponents perspective. There certainly are a lot of "what ifs" on both sides of the ball. I'd like to think the coaching advantage we have will off-set the talent disparity in the field. The key, as everyone has eluded to, is 3rd downs. Making sure we do not get behind the chains, and for them, forcing long passing situations. If we can stuff the run early, I like our chances.
My point is that our defense last year was an anomaly.
Bud Foster has shown time and time again that he can introduce wrinkles and totally new looks that throw opponents off. You'll note that he took some ideas that had been around a while, put them together in a pretty interesting way, and knocked off eventual national champion Ohio State. The man is brilliant and he is an X-factor.
I'm not comparing Tenn's D vs. VT's D. That doesn't make sense. I'm answering the question of why VT fans have greater confidence in their defense relative to one that was, for us, ranked very low last year.
Broken hands = Dadi Nicolas. Everyone expected a huge year out of him. But he was busted up for most of the season and was unfortunately a pretty big liability in key spots.
1. Bud Foster - was there last year and fielded the #44 team in total defense.
Bob Shoop- fielded the #14 team in total defense at a rebuilding Penn St. Is taking over a D that finished 36 and returning it's production. He coached top 25 defenses @ Vandy, let that sink in, VANDY!!!

2. Sorry, the broken hands reference went over my head. Barnett and Vareen are two of the best. It's possible for Barnett to match Reggie White's school record for sacks this year.
3. We have some decent but yet unproven talent at DT. I'll concede that point
4. We have one of the best lock down corners in college football and a first round draft pick, Cam Sutton. Who you got?

The story on Tallahassee.com came up initially and I saw the tweet, but then the page was blocked by three survey questions. I thought it was absurd to obscure information that is freely available elsewhere, so I embedded it directly.
There are survey questions? When I click it it opens to the rambling article/editorial from Charleston.

You should see his new outdoor basketball court. Maroon and orange pavement of some type. I know, "pics or it didn't happen", but I don't remember where I saw it. I just know it was one of the coolest courts I've seen.

As stated in the first article, my first thought was that this has been going on a long time. Administrators obviously have better expense accounts. I feel for the players.

4. Our secondary last year was a jumble of injury and inexperience, with guys playing whatever position needed to be covered due to depth problems. This is no longer the case.
Gotta say, in their situation I would have had no idea something like that would be frowned upon. Really unfair to those kids.
