This is the second time I've heard it, and both times BGSU's up tempo offense somehow meant more points for Tennessee. I get it they have more possessions to score, but it's almost like they're giving us BG's defense as well, and forgetting about CBF.
I had the same reservations, but apparently he takes it all in good fun. He thinks it is hilarious that his non-existent eyebrows have a twitter account and there's a kickstarter to buy him new ones.
If Tennessee's offensive line issues are real and not the byproduct of an unusual scheme from App State or sleepwalking through the opener, I don't think we'll have to wait long for Virginia Tech to expose them. I just think the scales still have to tip toward what Tennessee's run game was able to do for 13 games last year more than they fall on the side of panic after week one.
Bring up concerns over offensive line play and praise the running game in the same breath. Bold move.

no one said UT would hang 59 on us. He simply said that App State's strategy of slowing the game down to reduce the number of UT possessions is the opposite of what everyone expects from Fuente given his history and our first game. BGSU lost 59-30, in part because their pace gave UT more possessions. Obviously, pace is fine if you're scoring on more possessions than your opponent, but App State decided that a slower game would play to their strengths and it did. Fuente and Foster have to make that calculation based on our talent and scheme.
Agree. Maybe 2 years ago was ancient history, but it's ironic that we beat TOSU in their house while some UT players are comparing us to BGSU, the team that TOSU walloped last week. (Upside is that means they are not taking us seriously. )
I've seen some compare UT to TOSU, but it seems to me that UT is a number of steps down from the Buckeyes of the last 2 years.
It seems like our defense is improved over last year, with a number of younger players now having more experience, and some newer players poised for a breakout(e.g. Vinny Mihota, Mook, the Edmunds brothers). Our offense has the potential to be much more explosive than last year if we can improve in our blocking and cut down on the turnovers.
My score prediction: Hokies 24, Vols 17

yep, backhanded insult there. Comparing us to a lower level team that caused them trouble is basically saying we don't belong in the same conversation as they are or their real competition is. Not down with that at all.

The number is 16 for 2016. They'll probably just keep offering the current year as the number, and then even if it coincides with a certain player, they can claim precedent of just offering the year.
Honestly, we have been in the "nothing to lose territory" after the 10-win streak ended. Since the wheels came off and the rotten core exposed it was time for go for broke football to get things back on track. however, as you are alluding to the reasons why are different for Beamer and Fuente. Beamer had nothing to lose because he was at the end of his run and was trying to get back to relevance in his final years. He had nothing to lose by making changes and going for broke, provided he felt they were positive changes. He could have brought spread offense to VT then and been justified. Fuente on the other hand has nothing to lose in that he is at the start of his journey, and making a splash win at the gate would make a big impact. But he has nothing to gain from losing big, so his agenda needs to be play his style of football, score points, keep in the game until the end or flat out win.
Somewhat unrelated but I couldn't find a better thread and didn't think it deserved its own. So I'm kind of digging the new uniforms this year, the changes are subtle with the numbers and the collar but they look sharp.
I was thinking of buying one but I was disappointed to see that the ones they're selling still have the old "thinner" design around the collar instead of the new thicker outline from Saturday's game. Anyone have an idea as to why they did this? Maybe next year they'll get them updated?
Also, did something come out from the O'Bannon case about not selling jerseys with the numbers of star players--why are we selling #16?
