I'm sure others will add on, but non-chains I would recommend include:
TOTS, Sharkey's, and Hokie House (Duh)
The Cellar
The River Mill
DP Doughs is the new calzone spot
Boudreaux brunch
There's an Indian place on Prices Fork that isn't too bad
Champ's is always popular
Lefty's and PK's

I'm sure people will add on

I feel like it's not fair to have the "traditional road" vs ""traditional home" because basically they are the same uniform other than the fact that one has the road jersey and one has the home

Love that these guys are supporting us. And I love that the AD is still in Vick's corner. He got a lot of hate at the Ohio State game last year (I was sitting in the visiting section). This is one of the few places that still, without reservation, will always welcome him and he is one of my all time favorites.

So, as a former employee, I 100% respect your opinion and, I agree with you. The waitstaff desperately tried to push the owners to social media, improvements, attempts at outdoor seating (which is expensive as hell in Blacksburg btw) but there was a snag. The owner was the son of the original owner. He wouldn't dishonor his dad's memory of the place. What was that memory? Admittedly, Mike's in its early days had a reputation as the Hooters of Blacksburg. It was a somewat "rundown" or "grimy" place. That was its charm. It worked wonderfully when VT was like that as well. In the 90's. When the Terror Dome reigned supreme. It's not about that nowadays. We're celebrating the fact that VT students are pampered with the best food and quality of life. That is also a GREAT thing. But it means we are losing some of our roots. We're losing the things that made us that hometown, everyone-knows-your-name kind of place. There is nothing wrong with that and it is healthy for a school to do.

I guess what I am saying is, Mike's was a bit of a throw back. I speak from a totally emotional point when I say that Nick (the owner) is the epitome of a Hokie despite never attending class at VT and worked through spinal injuries and muscle tears because he cared so much about the alumni who came back and wanted Nick to meet their kids. It really was a genuine family establishment.

They were not the best at marketing, they were stubborn and old school, and I am not surprised they closed down. I'm getting choked up writing this post because Mike's was a lot like a second family to me and I texted Nick last night. It's just sad to me, he has two little girls and I pray that one of his buddies gets him a job because when we talk about our grit and how tough we are and all the things that make us better than UVA, it's people like Nick that we're talking about.

Sorry for the rambling. I've just been in a bit of a bad place.

I had them scoring 2 TDs with one XP being blocked. Foster's defenses are usually "break, but don't bend" where one person not doing their job can lead to a big gain/TD, so there's a higher chance for one of Liberty's players to take advantage of a mistake like a player being out of position or missing a tackle and score.

Moving to Charlotte in January so I'll have to keep an eye out for the Westbrook.

As with American Hefe's, I can gulp them down, but it doesn't get any better than the Weihenstephan Weissbier.
You guys have any Hefe suggestions that stand out? Always love to see if there's a good one I've missed.

I've had Sea Quench from one of their VA alehouses, and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I don't remember enough to give more details than that.
Devil Fish and Tongue Dropper are also good sours by South Street that I've only seen in big bottles (TD might be Blue Mountain, actually). Agree on Slippery When Wit and Jammer, but I actually liked Aunt Sally...

I just came across the play in question, it was against then FCS #7 Montana last year. Montana had already blocked 2 of Turner's Punts, so with a 12 point lead and 18 seconds left in the game at their own 11 yard line, Gill had Turner intentionally take a safety, rather than risk a blocked punt for a TD that would have given Montana a chance to recover an onside kick and throw a Hail Mary for the win. I couldn't find video of the game, but here's a write up of the game and espn's play by play:

YAIS!

rva beer, the veil, the answer, trip xing ... that's the list.

westbrook is only available in sc, nc and ga, i believe. i have a key lime pie gose by westbrook, that i am waiting to split with a neighbor. it's more sour than traditional, but it's the best ... tho destihl in illinois and rapp in fla make good ones too. a nice berliner weiss is money in the summer to.

i love sours, luckily reaver beach in va beach is local and they do a good job a nice price point. if being honest, no one, not allagash, wicked weed, etc can compare to the elite west coast sour guys like de garde, rare barrel, etc. like ipas, hopefully we'll catch up soon.

no, there was a different store there whose name escapes me... let me think about this.

as for the CD Cellar, i used to be a regular at the original one in Falls Church and would scour those $2 CD bins and find gems that were ignored by a lot of folks.. i'd show up after payday, spend $20 and walk out with a handful of great music.

i just digitized my whole collection and seeing those $1.99 price tags (yeah, never took them off) still puts a smile on my face!

i'm back in the 757 but whenever i make the trip back up, i'm always amazed by the new construction and shifting of the retail environment.

I'm not satisfied. I need more... much more of all of the info. I'm a graduate of Liberty and have been a Hokie fan for 25 years and I approve all of this.

By chance were you in Municipal Engineering last semester? I see you are a senior in civil. We spent quite a bit of time discussing the issues with that site on Prices Fork/University City Blvd and The Retreat/Blacksburg Comp Plan in that class.

Then we could pull the ole orange everything jerseys on the completely orange field like Boise State does with blue.

this picture disappoints me...It looks like "HOKIES" is going in NEZ...would prefer "VIRGINIA TECH" in both ends
