I have to go to a small town, Braselton, Georgia to argue down the speed on a ticket that they didn't reduce at all, which I think I am caught in a bit of a small town racket here, but that's another story. Any suggestions on getting a ticket reduced?
This summer we've been chasing several different species. Smith Mountain Lake for stripers, channel cats, flatheads, warmouth for flathead bait and white perch to occupy time waiting on catfish bites. We've had a few good striper outings mostly pulling umbrella rigs and tandem rigs. Fish are deep 40ft + and will come up to attack the silhouette of the schooling bait fish swimming by. I look forward to the cooling water of fall and pulling BIG live bait for stripers.
Catfish trips have been ok, boating several nice channels. The flatheads have eluded us, lots of bites, no hookups. We learned a little trick while anchored up on points for catfish. We take small pieces of cut bait (quarter sized) on ultra light gear with split shot weight and the white perch just show up. They are aggressive feeders and pretty tasty in the grease too. My 11 yr old son caught approx 20 several times while we are catfishing.
We had a week at Atlantic Beach, NC in July. The Spanish bite was ok from the pier and my son caught all the small bottom fish he wanted using Fish Bites (cut squid, imitation blood worms, and shrimp strips). We took a guided trip with Chasin Tails and we targeted king mackerel. We used small menhaden free lined drifting over rock piles. We caught 8 kings on the day (each were in the 22 - 24 inch range) and two sharks. The trip was a great introduction for my son. I want to take him off-shore but I want to make sure he doesn't get sick. This trip provided a decent boat run about 8 miles off the coast to test whether he would get sick. He didn't so we will push it a little farther next time.
With the heat and humidity over the last few weeks, we decided to head to the mountains this past Saturday for a little mountain stream trout fishing. The creek was about a 45 min drive from Roanoke and we were able to get a break from the heat. 90 degrees when we left home, 78 where we fished. It was a special regulations stream meaning single hook artificial only. I am at best a poor fly fisherman so I decided to take ultralight gear for me and my son. We fished little trout magnets and imitation nymphs. The nymphs paid off and we caught several small brook trout. The water was cool and it felt good to be out of the humidity.
I'm looking forward to Hokie football and cooling water Temps this fall.....maybe a possible Oct trip to OBX to get a big drum from the pier.

As a firefighter never. When I was a police officer and needed to get somewhere fast I just drove fast, wasn't like anyone was going to pull me over for going 15 over.

Honestly it hasn't. At least me personally, I'm just a line firefighter was just a line patrol deputy. The bosses above me have to deal with all that crap. The thing that affects my job the most is budget and people complaining ours is too large.
I guess that's more of an issue up north where it's drier and colder anyway. What bugged me was having used the lock for years in VA (particularly on slow pumps). I get to NY, and have to stand there in -15 with the wind blowing and my hand exposed.
Theres got to be a jet sweep in there too.
