Drove the station car a lot to go shopping. Our Chiefs drive themselves. I prefer the Engine but I'm a trained truck guy. Depends on the fire, a small house fire I like fog, large space fire or surround and drown smooth bore. Big Fire gets Big Water. I also am a huge CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) guy, can out out a lot of fire with just a little water.
I still don't know why everyone thinks Tenn will start 1-1. App State is pretty good!
Certainly respect Miami for doing this. It doesn't seem like
something they would've done in the past.
They lost a nine scholarships over a three year period, and did a self-imposed bowl ban. Very weak considering the offense.
At least in this instance Miami was worried enough to investigate and to kick players off the team (actual starters, even). So while the NCAA seems pretty toothless, teams do have some small amount of respect for them.

You beat me to it. Paterno's name doesn't belong anywhere near Beamer's. Just because Paterno had the *appearance* of being an upstanding guy for all those years, doesn't excuse him from being a win-at-all-cost monster when the light of day was finally shone on that program.
Paterno can rot in hell.
On the street I wrote a ticket because a parent was upset their 17 year wouldn't move the car out of the street, the parent refused, the kid refused so I wrote a ticket and had towed.

The more I look at it, the more confidant I am that Bronco can improve that program. He had consistent success at BYU, averaging about 8 wins a year with some 10+ win seasons thrown in the mix. I do think he benefited somewhat from having players that started out 2 years older than their competition *but* the pool of recruits that BYU recruits from is so much smaller than everyone else that the overall talent level of their recruits probably mitigates that to some degree.
Over the past couple of years he's had some impressive wins and some close losses to some pretty good teams. This is BYU's schedule last year. Highlights include beating Nebraska, Boise, and ECU (see what I did there?). Their close losses included a 1 point loss to a pretty good UCLA team, a 4 point loss to a mess of a Missouri team, and a one score loss to a pretty good Utah team in their bowl game. They also got wrecked by Michigan 31-0 (this loss will prep Bronco for a repeat of 38-0, bro this year).
That pretty well sums up their past couple seasons, too. Consistently beating the teams that they should and taking advantage of P5 opponents having down years to earn victories against teams with name recognition. While BYU is obviously a step down in terms of who they play the bulk of their schedule against, I don't think it's a stretch for me to say that we would have loved to have had similar results the past couple of seasons.
All of that said, I do not think he currently has the overall talent level at UVA to achieve quite that same level of success this year. I see wins against Richmond, Central Michigan, and Wake. UConn is also probably a win but we'll need to see how their team does on the road a week after traveling all the way to Oregon for a loss. So that's 3/4 wins. Who else do they beat? Duke, while they'll be missing Sirk, is still lead by Cutcliffe who always seems to be able to make it work. Pitt with the return of Connor could be quite a challenge for anyone. UNCheat, led by Trubisky, is and should be the Coastal favorite. Louisville? I'll admit I know nothing about them other than their HC is sketchier than Rich Rod. I expect Miami to be pretty good this year. GT? Who the heck ever really knows what GT team we're going to see from year to year? Us? Hahahahahahaha, no. So we're floating somewhere between 5-6 wins.
I really think the linchpin is how Bronco recruits. They don't have a lot of talent to begin with this year and their top couple of guys (read: Blanding) could be gone after it's over. Can he replace them? Keep in mind, he's been at BYU since 2003 and it's not exactly the easiest place to recruit for. Do we really even have a clue how he can recruit? If the UVA fanbase (I know, I know, they don't show up for the Spring Game) and administration can stick out a couple of bad to mediocre seasons AND Bronco recruits at a decent level they could start seeing the levels of success he had at BYU. Realistically, their administration will have no problem with sticking by him as evidenced by how long they stuck by London. The fan base is.....well, it's UVA.

But it looks like they've been affiliated with all of the Big Three during their history at some point. It's kind of interesting, if you're into that kind of stuff.
For the lay person CPR is now taught as compression only.

What does everyone here know about overnight parking at Bristol? We get a certain number of cars per spot at Earheart. However, we will have a few extra cars that will need a place to live for the weekend. Speedway parking does not allow anything over night parking, and doesn't open until Saturday morning anyway. Does anyone have any insight on this?

What do you enjoy the most? What do you dislike the most?
1) Most rewarding, I've been able to be part of crews that gave people back a pulse several times, I've put out numerous fires and saved at least part of people's homes, but personally rewarding for me was when kids or parents would come visit us and tell us about how we prevented or stopped something bad from happening. Whether it was because we installed a smoke detector in their house, or taught their kids to cover grease fires instead of putting water on it, or stopping a panic attack in their child at school.
2) I arrested a runaway at Kings Dominon, she was an employee and ran away from home and then came to work. Kings Dominon Called her mom to come get her and I arrested her for her own protection when she jumped out of a moving car. I also arrested someone at Kings Dominon for stealing stuffed animals from games. not likely...starting the season 1-1 isn't going to generate playoff buzz..especially losing to an un-ranked team some are expecting to finish near the bottom of the ACC and miss bowl season
Definitely. I drive faster in MD than I do in VA. That's because my speeding is way more tolerable than the flat-out batshit crazy things going on with other people. Unless you're doing about 90 around the Beltway during rush hour, you're not going to get pulled over just for speeding.
Yeah? It has been 48 years ago, and as I recall, we had to stand at attention for the calls, but I don't remember (sigh, age) much more than that and yelling. We had three calls, and it seems like by Last call, we were getting the requisite shit from the requisite a-hole sophomores as we were braced against the wall, but memory fades. Were you guys still in Brodie?
This is sound logic. The past 4 years (or however long since they raised 81 to 70 mph, I've set the cruise at 77 and never had a problem passing cops.
I have a friend that's a cop in nova and he said he usually won't pull you over until you get to the 12-15+ over range, again depending on the situation, type of street etc. Anyone that lives in Nova knows you can basically do about 10 over with little fear on most major roads. Maryland its more like 20 over.

Sound advice, thanks. The explanation I was given (assuming a normal, freely flowing highway) was that most cops won't care about 5 over, but 10 over might get you in trouble, especially if the officer is having a bad day, so stick to 7 over and you should generally be safe. The caveats you list above apply. Agree about Hopewell. My in-laws used to live in Charles City, and we'd pass through Hopewell when visiting them from Blacksburg. Having been on 460 for most of the way, the whole "don't you dare speed around here" was pretty ingrained by that point of the trip.
That God please let my shift be over soon. I wish people would stop calling my supervisors and telling them I speed everywhere.
