I think it's better, though, to get at least SOME outside games.

I'm going to vote for the 8-2 format, with no permanent crossover, but some allowance for those who want to schedule their cross-conference rival every year (the allowance is that if it's not a scheduled ACC game, it wouldn't count towards or against the ACC conference total -- it would be considered an OOC game for all practical purposes).

And I may be in the minority, but I don't mind the cross-divisional rival setup we have in the conference. Several of those games are bigger than we give them credit for, and not ensuring that they get played every year would be a pretty big blow to most of the fanbases. (Probably the most meaningless cross-divisional "rivalry" game is Louisville-LOLUVA.)

Of course, division realignment could assure that these games continue to happen, but that's not what's at stake here.

ETA: As a secondary UGA fan, I'm imagining the backlash of the Auburn game suddenly not becoming annual.

Also, whilst segwaying down the mall, I saw a kickball ump sitting in a VT beach chair and instinctively yelled "LEE SUGGS!" And sure enough, he turned around and waved at a segway jockey with a brain bucket helmet on.

I did a segway tour of dc and it was awesome. And I was raised in Alexandria and went to hs in DC.

I think the problem with students feeling part of the team is the priority that alumni are given over students in ticket sales. "Back in the old days (omg here the old fogy goes again !) ALL students automatically got a pass to football games at registration". It's much harder financially for students to come to games these days and you have to admit, there's nothing that will make a fan faster than actually being at a live game. Congradulations to Coach Fuente for doing what he can to involve folks even when the financials of the situation are now "out of whack".

I look forward to all the videos of practice that "I didn't take but a buddy of mine did" next week.

That's a slap in both Fuente's and the current rosters face. First, he suggests Fuente performed a miracle, i.e. a supernatural gift from the heavens, instead of on Fuente having the ability to coach a lesser-talented team into a top-25 team. Second, a 1000-yd receiver, a 1000-yd rusher, an experienced O-line, and Bud Foster's D is pretty nice inheritance. Perhaps there's no Paxton Lynch on the team, but to suggest that the overall talent in VT would be less than Memphis is just silly.

The market, may be bearish - Miami, Pitt, UNC will probably be pretty good. Duke and GT are wild-cards. But, I would imagine a coach that can put Memphis in the top-25 should be able to keep VT afloat, if not re-establish VT as an ACC elite.
