When things like this are publicly said by the head boss of this website:
I am committed to one more football season (2016) the way things are currently run. After this year, if there resources aren't available for me to decouple myself from TKP's day-to-day there will be some major changes which will range from TKP closing up shop, to becoming a pay website, to scaling back content.
Then I think we're past the time of tiptoeing around the subject of people not donating money because it might make them feel bad. TKP might not exist at this time next year. If we have to create a little divisiveness to ensure the website can continue to operate in the future, than that's what needs to be done. We're at 12% of Joe's fundraising goal by playing it nice... That's not going to cut it anymore.

I'm drawing a line among people who feel the need to complain about things that take money to do and don't contribute that money and those that enjoy what's here without complaining and don't pay. Much like I shamed people who complain about lack of fancy hires at VT, lack of recruiting resources and the like but refuse to give to the Hokie Club. If you want something to improve it takes money, if your not willing or able to give then don't complain about it and enjoy what you do have.

If the options are "Don't shame and TKP goes away in 12 months" or "Shame, create a little friendly division, and TKP is propped up enough to survive the long haul", I'll shame the hell out of some people - Hell, I'll shame even if it causes a few to get bent out of shape over it. TKP >>>> No TKP

That's exactly my point! Everyone has their reason for their choice and those who don't donate by being part of The Key Players Club could very well be contributing in their own ways. Don't devalue anyone just because they don't have a key next to their name.
and 4 of the top ten aren't, but I can personally vouch that one of those is a cheap bastard who feels really guilty about not anteing up BUT does use the amazon link and occasionally buys a t-shirt...

The way I read it is only for people who complain about the site and its coverage.
Correct - my 'shame' comment was intended to be a bit more sarcastic, and prompt the use of the standard gifs. The take away is getting people to contribute one way or another, especially in helping people understanding that something as simple as letting annoying ads play is important.
Totally against member shaming, but I really hope that those members of this board who can afford to contribute (and I won't make insinuations about any individual's financial standing or ability to do so) would do so to help ensure the future of this site. I for one do not have a strong Hokie community (or really one at all) to discuss Hokie football with outside of my Dad, as I live in upstate SC and the majority of my friends follow other schools. This makes TKP and the coverage, community, and articles even more important to me as a fan and I don't want to lose that.
You're still drawing a line between those who donate and those who don't, which, going back to my point, is not what this site was built on. There are many top contributors to the community who don't donate for one reason or another. Of the top 20 on the Turkey Legs Big Board, which is just about the only way to measure the amount someone contributes to the site, there are 11 folks who are not part of The Key Players Club. That's not to say they've never donated before because I know I have, but I'm saying that there are many long-standing members of the community who helped build this site up and contributed their fair share in one form or another.
I'm not arguing against that. Positive punishment for those who don't donate in the manner you suggested is not the way to get them to donate. In fact, it will keep those who don't donate silent and not feeling connected to the community at all which will result in no new donations. So in your effort to gain donors, you are actually chasing them away.
It's not about being above anything, that point seems to be getting lost. It's about support and the ways it can be provided. It's a great and inclusive community here, even to folks from other schools, but to ensure it continues, revenue will be required. If that's in the form of TKP memberships (and bottle openers) or letting ads play, realize that all this goes away without money.

Without getting into the psychology behind the ineffectiveness of positive punishment, let's just say that a community that was built upon years of full community involvement without any differentiation between those who donate and those who don't doesn't need division created by those who feel their donation grants them special privileges. Until Joe decides that those who donate get something more than the key bottle opener you got for giving, it's not right for anyone to declare themselves above anyone else in the community. That tears at the foundation and will only be detrimental to the site as a whole.
People already do when there's good X's and O's stuff. /cfb doesnt care about our recruiting efforts or more personal program stuff

We welcome all but if someone complains about content, lack of something, complains about coverage etc then the above Gif provided by Alum should work just fine.
My only bad idea is a second TKP tailgate. I know we do one for a charity, but I can't think of a more worthy cause to have a second one than TKP.
