I think it is a mistake to entirely eliminate kick offs. Its an entire phase of the game....gone. At some point we have to realize that the sport will never be entirely safe and these kids will have to choose whether or not to play it.
We need the threat of an onside kick to keep games interesting in the 4th quarter. If they want to improve it some they could make the opening possession of each half start at the 20.
The flag football jokes have already started.

I don't know the numbers for Alan Cross but he looks to be around 6'0 240? With Sam giving a couple of inches in height and a decent amount in weight.

It's weird to see this written about a company that has just recently started turning a profit.

He's gotten a ton of work at RB, but I think we would all agree that McMillian/a healthy McKenzie/McClease will likely be the primary guys. Situational RB? And if you had to pick one of Durkin/Peoples/Cunningham/Burke to step up and win the HBack job, who is your pick? Or do we likely go with the less than ideal platoon approach?
First of all, the NFL still is in love with the over the air model. Even the Yahoo game last year got broadcast in the local markets.
Secondly, Amazon hasn't proved its staying power yet. The reason they got so powerful in the first place was because they offered all of their products so cheap and had a low threshold for free shipping. Well now, they've forced the competition out, raised their prices, require sales tax in most states, and keep upping the free shipping threshold unless you pay $100 for Prime. In short, they've lost a lot of what made them attractive back in the day, but now they've become such a giant in the field that most folks don't see where else to turn to. With streaming (and live streaming) still being so relatively new, people like the NFL aren't going to start putting a lot of their eggs in that basket until they figure out exactly what the landscape is going to look like.

Here is my main issue with this. It locks is in with ESPN for a hell of lot longer then needed. So long that if a new revenue stream is created like when the BIG network came out, there isn't anything we can do, but basically fall behind the other conferences again.
When the NFLs game rights are up in a few years FOX and CBS etc. are more then likely going to get outbid for the rights because Amazon can come in and out bid them all.
We might have lost out on the short-term by waiting it out, but in the long term it would have probably been just as revolutionary as when creating a conference specific Chanel was new. Now we just sit and fall further and further behind the SEC, and BIG

Anyone who knows more about this, is there the same critique for punts? I understand the general philosophy that there are awkward blocking angles and two teams running full steam ahead at each other but punts have a lot of the same ingredients but we aren't talking about changing those because you need the punt on 4th down.
I think it's more of a function of 5 ACC teams per year for ND. With 14 teams, that roughly translates to every three years.
Wonder if it would be possible to eliminate the kickoff but still allow for onsides kicks?
The downside there is it makes it blatantly obvious that an onsides is coming, but most are telegraphed as it is with some rare exceptions (although didn't Alabama use one in the NCG out of the blue that basically completely turned the game their way)
Otherwise, as you stated, a number of games are going to just be over with a couple of minutes left with no appreciable mechanic or play available to at least intentionally try and swing possession.

This strikes me as one of those things I would be disappointed to lose because of tradition but get over it about 3 games into the season once its gone.
I agree, and I hate that some plays are more dangerous than others, especially when they're something like kickoffs that are so important to a game. But I would be crazy if I said that we should keep said plays in the game even though they are detrimental to player health.

Removing the on-side kick would change the entire strategy for the end of the game, and would make many games practically over with several minutes left on the clock. How many of the greatest football finishes of all time involve a kick return on on-side kick recovery? Maybe good for injury prevention, but bad for the fans...
Yup. Any way ads can be sold, they'll eventually be sold. Jumping on this bankwagon would be good for the ACC
I never bought it because it didn't have what I wanted. It offered like NBCSports, BigTen, Longhorn, SEC, I think, maybe PGA TV.
Very telling statements. It's crazy to think that expectations are now focused on conditioning, playing fast, putting in the work in the offseason, attention to detail, sense of urgency, etc. Really shows how stagnant we had become in recent years. I feel like all the expectations of being back the last couple of years were nothing more than lip service at this point.
I feel like ESPN is starting to drop off and Fox Sports is making a push forward. I'm glad the ACC has made a deal, but I'm wondering if ESPN is worth it for the long term.
Will locking in for so long eventually hurt us financially? I've heard people bemoaning the Nike deal. Can this end up being a deal where other comparable entities end up making more money?
Too bad Jeff King isn't still on the roster I would think he would've filled this role perfectly
