We have unfunded scholarships right now. Title IX essentially just increases the cost by necessitating more scholarships. I'll be interested to see where we are after this football season.
The Mrs. and I fired up the first 2 episodes last night. After some high expectations that I had after reading the glowing reviews from you fine folks, I have to say I was not disappointed.
The first scene into the absolutely perfect credits and I was hooked already. Just a fantastic "creepiness" to the whole show, but enough humor and nostalgia to keep it all balanced.
As said, the kids are fantastic, but I really really enjoyed Ryder and Harbour's character as well. With the Chief, I thought the bit with the "having lost a child and now I am super cynical" bit was a bit clichd, but the actor did such a good job and I think the believable development for him as a cop with really good instincts is a good direction.
There's an interesting slippery slope here that I often wonder how far we will slide down. It has to deal with how much risk of injury is "too much" in college sports.
Once we eliminate the kickoff, what's next? I'd assume any play with a higher-that-average concussion risk is certainly on the table at some point.

# | Finding the H-Back, The Versatile Centerpiece of Justin Fuente's Memphis Offense I think the whole point of Fu's offensive scheme is to sell every play by every player in such a manner so as to make it virtually impossible for a defensive coordinator to safely predict the play without getting burned more often than not trying to do anything but guess what's up on any given snap. Remember, French is extraordinarily proficient at breaking down the film and studying the tendencies, but even he is studying the result of the plays, not predicting the next one in a game time situation. It seems to me that all a D coordinator can do is try to school his players not to bite on certain looks, but then it is to the offense's advantage, forcing the D to react, rather than attack with certainty and aggression. Taking aggression away from a good D is a good way to hamstring talent and mitigate mismatches.
As for French being able to "do it", well, I think he is coaching material and his football IQ would probably humble (or really piss off) a lot of coaches.
Now...I have to go back, as usual, and read it all again in order to begin to understand his analysis. More information than I can retain, for sure, but at least I feel a little bit smarter just to have read it. And read it. And...
eliminate crack back block and chop blocks but don't you dare touch kickoffs.....
The Kickoff is one of the biggest plays in college football and should not be messed with because this play below wouldn't have happened.

# | Finding the H-Back, The Versatile Centerpiece of Justin Fuente's Memphis Offense Again, speed of the game type of issue- if you are the backside linebacker, you are keying the mesh point and the back side tackle. It is easy to lose sight of the H.
Case in point- how many times did VT play action where the back didn't even go to the same side where the QB faked the hand off. Some of those plays still worked. It is a whole different game at field level.
didn't know Bud and Wiles were new? In Carson's case I think playing time was a big issue and the main reason he left.
Let's see what happens at UMd...my guess is the same. Not really an OLB, not really a DE.

I also hope that this tendency might be remedied so that other teams can continue to be flabbergasted by Fuente's scheme.

So if cable is going to be close to dead in three years, you're saying that the ACC is getting ahead of the curve?
NBA is going to jersey ads next year, its also why the salary cap is expected to rise almost $40 million a team over a two year span. That is why you saw so many people get "crazy" deals this offseason. NBA salary cap rose from $74mil to $95mil, and teams were required to spend at least $85mil on salary. Next year its expected to jump to $114 mil, with $102mil minimum spending.
I will say best of luck and man up. If you want reps then earn them, nothing is given at this level of ball!

I had assumed the H-Back was practically made for someone like Sam Rogers, but this throws some doubt on that. Should be an exciting fall to see how this plays out. If Rogers isn't the H-back though, what kind of role can he have? He's a good runner, but he's not a pure tailback by any means, could we really end up not fully utilizing him?
Definitely true. There's a lot that goes on that we never see or hear about. Best of luck to him at any rate.
I would agree if ESPN/ACC didn't have examples to learn from and had not been talking about his for last 3 years. This will have taken 6 plus years to happen. Not ok in today's world. As for watching content on streaming that's not true, I watch Netflix and Amazon at least every other day, but for live events where there are multiple events occurring at same time having the ability to press one button and switch between 4 games is awesome. I can pause all 4 games, skip commercials or move between them at ease.

For NFL fans who were around in the 80's, that means mobile pulling guard. In the spring, we saw more of the guards pulling than we saw from his Memphis offense (which only pulled the guard on inverted veer and counters) so there is an option for him to run his offense and work around the HBack. But, he doesn't want to. HBack influences defensive calls and can trap people easier. The HBack also HAS to be good on that back side wham block or that play won't go.
Do they still have the sports extra package, which has a few extra sports channels for an additional $5/month? Is it worth it?

# | Finding the H-Back, The Versatile Centerpiece of Justin Fuente's Memphis Offense Blocking is the big mystery for him. He didn't look bad in the spring blocking. At the same time, it isn't fair to make a judgement at live speed. I think Rogers, Burke, Cunningham, Peoples, and Durkin will all get a bunch of snaps in fall camp, and at least two will be used frequently. The big key for Fuente is that those two are good enough at all aspects at the position that one being in the game doesn't tip his play calling.
They aren't but the practice tempo and the expectations for the entire team have changed. The strength and conditioning staff changed. The expectations for the entire team changed. Also I'd argue that they are a bit "new" as both (or at the very least Foster) have been reportedly re-energized by Fuente.
