If a player does something horrific and criminal 'off the clock' and does not affect the game, it's the job of the court system to hand down punishment, not a sports league. So drug violations (only if they're the sort of drugs that give a player an advantage, not marijuana, IMO) and equipment violations are within the legitimate purview of the League, while DUI, domestic violence and other crimes really need to be handled by the court system.

- Le'Veon Bell gets 2 games for a failed drug test
- Greg Hardy gets 4 games for violently beating a woman
- Tom Brady gets 4 games for tampering with equipment
So deflating a football is equal as bad as violently assaulting someone? What a joke.
