So it's not role specific, like this guy is a known "big man" developer, or this guy is primarily in charge of the guards, or whatever? I definitely get the recruiting thing, and the extra eyes and bodies to implement the coach's vision. Thanks.

Hey Coach:

Over the years we've criticized everything from QB development, to the run game, to overall game plan. Yet Danny Coale was always open and Wyllie Byrn always delivered. How do you explain that? Intangibles? A particular coaching style? The QB?

Baylor's athletic department is a dumpster fire right now. I really can't see any AD in the prime of his career, secure in his current position, and without ties to Baylor, wanting to touch that job with a 39-1/2 foot pole. Until they get their house in order, Baylor's options seem limited to the following generic candidates:
1. Up and comer from a lower-tier program wanting to make a name for him/herself
2. Baylor alum wanting to help the alma mater set things back on the right course, probably as a last gig before retirement.
3. Recently or soon-to-be fired AD willing to take just about any job.

In terms of programs similar to Virginia Tech, I'd be very worried if I heard Texas A&M, or especially UGA were poking around for him. Lots of similarities between Athens and Blacksburg. And the actual UGA Alums I've met are mostly classy people and fans (the horrid SEC homer UGA fans are the ones that have never set foot in a UGA academic hall, and usually not even set foot in any college classroom).

Clemson and USC-e are also both programs with similar towns and deeper pockets.

From what ive understood theyre really important in recruiting and extending the coaches ideas at practice. Coach cant one on one every guy on the court and extra sets of eyes can help you identify players needs at practice and even stuff you might miss in games. Basically just an extra set of eyes looking over everything and good advice from what ive gathered

The best ones are up for anything you ask, and put the team first when you need them to.

I could see him leaving to any of the top 2-3 schools in a P5 conference - somewhere that has a significantly larger athletic budget, a wall of recent championships and significant influence over the conference. Possibly Florida, Bama, Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, Michigan, etc (aka, one of the top 10 jobs in the country).

Whit is relatively young - his career is not necessarily over and one of those jobs could both elevate his career and lead to bigger roles as a conference commissioner or NCAA lead. We need to realize that Whit, Buzz and Fuente are always going to mentioned as candidates to leave as long as they are doing well at Tech - too young and successful to assume they will be in bburg for 20 more years, #FirstWorldProblems

Unsealed Court Documents: 6 separate instances of child sexual-assault were either witnessed by or reported to Penn St admins as far back as 1976.

Only two went to trial. All 6 were given settlement payments by Penn St.

From the 1976 allegation:

The victim, who was identified in court records as John Doe 150, said that while he was attending a football camp at Penn State, Sandusky touched him as he showered. Sandusky's finger penetrated the boy's rectum, Doe testified in court in 2014, and the victim asked to speak with Paterno about it. Doe testified that he specifically told Paterno that Sandusky had sexually assaulted him, and Paterno ignored it.

"Is it accurate that Coach Paterno quickly said to you, 'I don't want to hear about any of that kind of stuff, I have a football season to worry about?'" the man's lawyer asked him in 2014.

"Specifically. Yes . . . I was shocked, disappointed, offended. I was insulted. . . I said, is that all you're going to do? You're not going to do anything else?"

Paterno, the man testified, just walked away.

I was at that game, and it's my favorite memory of a game I saw in person. And I was in NO for the NC game. It was the most fun I've ever had watching a game.

I will be honest here, while I care a lot about our hoops, I have never known much about our assistant coaches. In football, the assistants get a ton of attention/scrutiny/press/praise and criticism, but the role of basketball assistants seems understated by comparison. This certainly seems like a good hire, and I trust Buzz. to get the right pieces in place, but I'll admit that I don't know squat about the effects of Chew gone, this guy in, or pretty much anything else about the coaching after Buzz. Since I never played organized basketball, could someone clue me in a little about the role/importance of assistants?
