Nope, they want the best kids available. If they don't have confidence in their coaching ability to shape a young man's work ethic then we need new coaches. The kids don't come in as finished products, but as blank slates.
I really hate these comments. Is VT some sanctuary of modesty? If a kid is a good player, he will succeed. But I guess it's a coping mechanism to say he wouldn't.
Been catching a few blue cats recently

Remember when London sold the UVA program to all the VA recruits in 2012? He got a crazy good class that I compare to that one crazy class that Hugh Freeze got at Ole Miss. It raised eyebrows across the country as London got two 5 stars and some 4 stars to commit to a program that was a dumpster fire. Tech can't seem to sell our program to these young men, even with some of the best facilities in the country. Hopefully Fuente can get this ship moving in the right direction so we can get our VA kids to stay home and stop leaving for Bama/FSU.
I knew we weren't getting Khalan Laborn as soon as he made the comment about warm weather year round. That video of him in the FSU Lambo still just gets at me. I know we've had many discussions of how these 18yr old kids don't owe us anything and they can commit where they want, but I still cringe a little when top Virginia kids leave the state. FSU seems to have a strangle hold on the top talent in the 757. Look at their past classes, every year they land top Virginia kids. Anyway i'll stop rambling. I trust in Fuente and Whit that our program is on the up swing and well soon see the fruits of their labor. See you guys in Bristol
Yeah, shouldn't take that long to drive a Lamborghini from Tallahassee to Blacksburg.
Whelp-f*k dammit. Shit, lost another one.
I don't quite get it. There's a ton of cool stuff, but not totally connecting them.
I down voted for calling the kid a douche. I can't blame young men for taking advantage of opportunities (as long as the opportunities aren't unethical) presented to them in return for busting their butts to get to where they are.
Too early. But regardless, answer is no.
Mr. Fireman I respect you as a fan and a person. Your comments are always spot on in my book.
TKP is a high profile forum for VT news and commentary. Recruits, players, and their parents read (or are members of) this site. So it's not just about social media, it's about the entire online presence. I don't call into question Khalan as a person for what he did, nor do I think anyone else should. The actions taken reflect the current state of college football recruiting, which itself is sad.
I don't get the sense that the guy is a prima-donna. I think the idea was probably not his own, but he went along with it in good fun. As others have said in other ways...let's say he showed up on a horse on a treadmill? We all would have been cool with that, I'm sure. He likely would be legendary, day one.
It is hard NOT to be a prima-donna with his skills and all the people in his ear, but listening to him, he seems to be on track, and making good decisions. I'd bet a lot of money that, barring injury, he is 3 and done. So yeah, I think fans and coaches alike would have preferred he picked VT and worried about his potential attitude later.
I keep wondering how good VT could be if we could just get the Tidewater guys that FSU does. It's painful... really painful, but hopefully we can change it soon.
Shitty day for recruiting.
Laborn to FSU per Rivals.

It's simple - no one takes the NCAA seriously. Problem solved.
Now I see how it works ! That video was pretty stark reality wakeup call. Like Shoog, I can't believe NCAA can permit this and still be taken seriously.

i would like to think that after the VT coaches saw that video, they realized they prefer a workhorse, blue-collar player vs. a primadonna one. but what do i know...
It is not like we can afford to have Saban's tough love and say "have fun" to one of his 5* that decommitted recently. We have been having good luck with Florida players that want to play in Blacksburg. Time to focus more on UFaT (University of Florida at Tech). I believe many of those 3*'s down there would be 4*'s up here. I hope Garbutt comes back but we cannot continue to always be the bridesmaid and not the bride. That is not to say Fuente doesn't see this. However, if we are stocked with some of the best talent then there will be no need to have to mitigate a deficit in talent with scheme. Being able to enact good play calling is what Fuente does and he has proven it at TCU and Memphis. I have seen a few 4*'s fizzle from VA recently and some 5*'s that went to UVA.

It bums me out to say this, but I agree with you. My hope is that it will stop, but there are no signs of that happening any time soon.

In my mind, it's one thing when recruits leave the state. VT isn't for everyone. But for the #1 rated VA recruit to go to FSU 3 years in a row? Unacceptable, and I don't mean for the kid's "not staying home and representing the state because they should be obligated." VT has to do a better job.
