Northeast Florida checking in here. Almost all of my fishing is light tackle (7' spinning with 2500 series reels) saltwater inshore. I don't fish in the surf but now through Sept is the best time here for reds in real close.
The majority of my casts are with a Gulp: 3" Gulp shrimp ("natural", a greenish gray back over a white belly) or 4" Gulp swimming mullet (white).
I'm less picky on jig heads. There is a brand sold at Academy that has an unpainted lead head with the plastic red eyes glued on (I'm big on red eyes). I also like the slightly flattened teardrop shapes (keeps the tail up a bit) with metallic flakes in the paint. But I'll throw a basic chartreuse head with the white mullet quite a bit.
I have used other Gulp colors...copper/new penny is a popular color here...and I've had luck with the dark green color in swimming mullet (I call it a mud minnow).
My only gripe about the swimming mullet in general is that little blues and jacks will cut the tail off of it more so than the shrimp. But for fishing slow on the bottom in cold weather or in moving water, it is great.

Eddie Royal had the right idea. We need to show them that "Excitement is on the way" this year, then maybe we can do better.

# | Is Nick Saban, or Alabama's Recruiting Staff, the worst recruiting staff this year? Saban is in a position to not worry about these things. If he goes somewhere else he will just sign one of the multitude of other kids wanting to play for him.
VT does not have that good fortune. We shouldn't get all bent out of shape when it happens for sure. underage kids will change their mind. But we need a larger pool of kids to pull from. Restock the shelves so we don't need to worry so much when one drops out.

Really? I can tell you that least two other recruits have made comments about the negative comments directed at Laborn from Hokie Nation. Not what you want recruits reading.

Agreed, we need to start treating FSU as an enemy of the state. I know we have a terrible record against them but they are also kicking our ass in recruiting in OUR state. VT needs to hire a full time person that just stays in757 making appearances at games and building stronger relations with HS coaches. We can't even get kids to commit when their parents went to tech (Derrick Nnadi). We won't be winning any ACC titles unless we pick up in recruiting, especially with Ritct in Miami.

All I can say is I'm disappointed just because of all those comments he made back when he committed. Normally I wouldn't get too upset about a kid de-committing like this because, like everyone has said, they're just kids - it sucks but it happens. But this guy in particular really went way out of his way to make it clear he was committed to us and that committing that early wasn't going to be an issue. He addressed that head-on and made a ton of statements like that you don't normally see these guys make. It seemed like the most sure thing you could ask for, and the fact that it fell through like this just looks really, really bad for our staff IMO.

Just got this from Reel Obsession Custom Rods- my new bucktail rod is almost ready. You may ask why it isn't Hokie colors? Because- my parents bought each other matching travel ultralight trout rods as wedding presents and I used to love fishing with them. They were yellow with brown thread, so this is a tribute to my parents.
What I heard from a very good FSU buddy (booster) Bleacher Report approached him once they heard he was committing Saturday and instead wanted him to do it bigger and better.
They had 2 ideas and he decided to go with Lambo and FSU logos.. Honestly what 18 yr old kid wouldn't want to do this at the biggest HS Football weekend ever?
Yes its a kick in the balls to VT with and RKO but at the end of the day we will be fine.
