But then why verbally commit at all if you aren't 100%?

A lot of it has to do with the fact that they are young, showered with attention, and don't want to disappoint anyone. It's very similar to sales, one tactic is to endear yourself to someone to the point where the buyer legitimately feels like they would be betraying the seller to not give them what they want. They commit, love it, but when they realize the step they have made once they are removed from the situation, they pull back from their commitment. I feel for these kids I really do. It's a pretty dirty, sometimes sleazy business. I really think we have some of the best guys out there on our campus but still, lines are quite frequently walked when it comes to recruitment.

My wife and I got a few "Go Hokies!" on our honeymoon in Germany two months ago!

Had two people in the Frankfurt airport, one random guy who barely spoke any English in Strousbourg, France, and one of our bartenders in Rudesheim apparently had family that went to tech as international students. Oh, and two of the people on our boat have a son and daughter that are both Hokies.

Okay, last comment I'm making as I know I get way too far into these internet chains. I'm all for the funny moments but you, without fail, alter every university's name to something degrading or insulting. That may be cool for some, or funny at times, but I keep reading sPitt, scUM, Loserville, and a ton of bullshit. I am letting you know I will begin down voting your comments based on this as I think it's a shit way to represent. We're known for our hospitality at games and our welcoming atmosphere. Don't let it be different on the internet just because you are anonymous.

oh... damn, you're right, I totally forgot there was a 1 hour statute of limitation on being a disrespectful. what was I thinking?

At this point to about an hr and half ago, yeah. I have. But from your post and neg legs I feel tempted conclude that you (and a few others) haven't.

I don't think anyone is knocking his ability to coach, but we've struggled for years in getting the best D talent in VA. You have to question why. When Beamer announced his retirement, obviously Bud was on the list and the common thing I read was his recruiting ability was questionable. Other than Settle , what top tier D talent have we brought in from our home state ? The fact that our best LB since Adibi/Hall was a walkon, while giving Tyler credit, also shows that there was a lack of talent. I am not for letting Foster go, but we do have to figure out why the best D talent in our hotbeds doesn't come here and figure out what to do about it.
I think the beginning of the Fuente era is going to look a lot like the rise of the Beamer era in the fact that he won't pull in the 4-5* guys, but will turn the 2-3* into all ACC caliber players.

I think you're overestimating the recruiting that led up to those defenses. Kendall is the only true difference. Dadi and Maddy were nobodies. Outside of that, I don't see a big difference between Ken, Facyson and Marshall and our replacements in Trevon, Mook and big Tim.

I'm all on board with the "these are still High School kids and they can change their minds at any time" thing. I also get that they want to take all of their official visits, because why not. But then why verbally commit at all if you aren't 100%? That's the thing that I don't get about recruits lately. It seems to me that there would have to be something to sway you towards another school in particular, in which case just announce your new commitment. Of course if there is some news you found out about the school you're currently committed to and have changed your mind, then it makes sense to "re-open" your recruitment. This isn't directed toward Tyjuan Garbutt btw, just in general. With that being said, they of course can do whatever they want since it's their process and their future that they have to worry about. Just trying to think about it logically...

obviously, that's why you went back and edited that comment to say it again. you clearly moved on.
