That's a tough question to answer for several reasons, first off being that I'm a gear head, secondly because anywhere from a 6 to a 10 weight can be used in the surf depending on conditions and what you are fishing for. I've got more rod, reel and line combos than I can count.
A good standard surf set up would be an 8 weight fast action rod with intermediate line and a quality reel. This exact set up also works well in the Bay and chasing various species on a boat. For rods, I like Sage, TFO, Colton, St. Croix. Reels, I prefer Nautilus, Ross or Lamson. The intermediate line is used to cut through the waves to keep the fly down for blues, spanish mack, pompano, etc. If I'm surf fishing in Fla I use a floating line - less waves. Also use a floating line for anywhere in Pamlico Sound.

As an HT alum, I'd play Ben Hur instead of Bravura (for the trillionth time) any friggin' day!
ACC has gotten better, and we've dropped off a little bit. We took a slight dip in recruiting, and a relatively large dip in developing talent. I 100% agree that this is changing - but change doesn't always happen fast. We'll get there, I'm just not convinced we'll be there next season.
Where is the depth limited? Maybe a position or two, but we are deep all over the offense, most of the D.
I think the offense will be better. I'm not sure how you define "much better" but that might be overly optimistic. We have a brand new quarterback and an offensive line which is experienced, but also being coached by yet another OL coach. I expect there to be some breakdowns. My hope is that the team will improve over the course of the season. I'm confident that will be the case but I think 8-4 would be a really good first season for Fuente. I would be absolutely delighted for anything better than that.
All that being said, we're going 15-0 baby!!
I'm a bit more optimistic than 7-5/8-4 this fall. I think the defense will be at least as good as last year (we all think a bit better), and I happen to think the offense will be much better. We certainly shouldn't make any judgments based on an early season match-up with a team like Tenn. But we should see steady improvement on the offense throughout the season.
If we went 7-5/8-4 I wouldn't be disappointed. However if we won 9 games, I wouldn't be surprised.

Very Happy for him, I was hoping he would get a D-line job in FBS somewhere even if it wasn't power-5. Hopefully he becomes a D-Coordinator in FBS over the next few years.
Some day I would like to see an even older VT tradition re-enacted: When we used to meet VMI in Roanoke for the Thanksgiving day football game, the band used to strike up the "Parade of the Charioteers" from the movie Ben Hur when the Corps entered a natural echo chamber of tall buildings on both sides of the street while marching from the train station to the stadium. A youtube link below gives you a small idea of what it sounded like, but remember at that time we had a presidential inauguration winning Highty Tighty Band of over 300 members and at least three rows of tubas adding base to the song along with the marching step of the Corps on the pavement to keep time. I remember seeing the mouths drop of the VMI cadets watching on the side of the street.
