A Mike that can't shed a block and can't drive on tackles to me isn't an adequate football player. Again just my perspective.

Yes, Miami. Ive only been to one game there and the stadium was nearly empty (maybe 20k and 1/4 were Hokies) but it was still a cool entrance. The smoke tunnel combined with a great sound system made a really memorable effect. If they ever get back to near capacity attendance, it would be very impressive.
Then again, I was three sheets so maybe that had something to do with it

I went there for grad school and went to a bunch of games, it was OK. Doesn't really compare to Lane. I'd rank entrances VT, FSU, Clemson, The Rest...

I think last year was the outlier for Bud. Three of the DB's he expected to start coming out of the spring missed most of the season, and the backups did not even have enough experience for Bud to be sure what position they needed to be in, not to mention having an understanding of the defense. We were limited in what we could run on D because of this, which limited Buds ability to make adjustments or complex blitzes. I expect the D to be better than last year because of experience, and because I think they will more time off the field to rest or make adjustments.
I like it, and not putting the Eagle on there is fine with me...DC United and Germany already have that.
But, I will say this is pretty sharp.
And this is pretty sweet too.
Of course the eagle in the last one needs tweaking...13 feathers on each wing and all.

I kind of like the GT Ramblin' Wreck (1930 Ford Model A Sport Coupe) leading the team onto the field with a bunch of cheerleaders hanging off of it. Sure beats riding a bus a few feet, rubbing a doorstop, and then jogging down a small decline.
i have liked the snake and ball logo. i wonder if we didn't use it in the federation crest because of the integrated swoosh? while i like the snake, i don't want the slogan or a 5 stripe shield (5?). that said, finding a way to integrate a snake, or an eagle, or something, anything symbolically meaningful would be a huge step forward.
USA on a 13 stripe shield....i mean, i get it, but c'mon, man...
Nike already came up with an awesome crest for US Soccer. But of course, it was never used....
He would be a great addition, slasher type that fits Buzz style.

It will being interesting to see if the coaching change stalls the family pipeline - brothers or sons. Foster is a great conduit but CFB and Stiney seemed to wave that flag in the past.
The problems at the Mike spot are interesting. I agree that Motu is an adequate player, the problem is Bud's scheme requires a playmaker there. A guy like Jack Tyler that instinctively knows what to do, finds the ball, and puts a damn good hit on the guy carrying it. Motu can hold ground, but he's not shown us that he can yet be that playmaker, and leader on defense that the position requires. I recently saw some comments that he was playing nicked up a little more than we thought at times last year, but I can't recall where I saw that. Maybe that explains some of his hesitation and perceived weakness.
Ugh...Nike has had a few acceptable kits over the years, but it's mostly been fail after fail.
I liked the '06 home whites with the red and blue vertical stripe.

In general, national teams should be instantly recognizable (esp in their home kit) when anyone turns on the TV. Sadly, the US doesn't really have much in the way of an established jersey history (i think we change looks more than some club teams historically), but we could establish a basic mold.
Home: White top, Navy Shorts, White socks
Away: Navy Top, White shorts, Navy Socks
If they want to get creative within that mold with some stripes, etc, it should be ok, but don't change the overall look.
also, the crest...while anything would be an improvement over the 90's flying ball crest with all its wrong colors and meaningless symbols, i feel like Nike and USSF went with the smallest improvement possible. It has ZERO character. Just adapt the original/centennial shield crest for a modern look. NO ONE complained about the centennial crest or kits. in fact, i feel like they were the most liked thing Nike has ever given us.
and on that note: Nike...look around the globe this year. All they did was hand everyone the same kits with different colors/shades. I'm so sick of their cookie cutter crap. England should look like England and France like France (and the US shouldn't just be wearing an adaptation of the England and France kits). Adidas, Puma and even Marathon are putting out great, unique kits for most of their top clients. Nike is just pumping out carbon copies. Brazil's home yellow was the only sacred kit unharmed by Nike, but even their away blues are just a copy of the England/France/USA stripey shoulder thing...it's horrible.

If you just look at your OT argument, to me, that's a talent discussion. I tend to think all those guys are as solid of OT's as we have had here in a long time. All are adequate in the VT scale of OLineman. You don't think they are that talented, thus, you think we don't have enough depth.
Same thing for Mike LB. I don't think Motu is nearly as bad as many think. He's an adequate player and I rather like Huelskamp and Lydon (who I forgot to mention initially). I really, really don't think we have a depth problem at MLB, I see that as 3 deep. But, if you are one of those people who think Motu is hot garbage, then we have a depth problem at the position.
We disagree about talent, I think we have some pretty good players, thus, I think we have some pretty good depth.
It seems odd to say it, but I agree. We should be better on offense than defense.
Maybe that is helpful? We've lamented for more than a decade now that the pressure our anemic offense put on the defense was harmful. Maybe putting up more points could cover some of the defenses shortcomings this year?
