Well, then, I would have lost that bet, huh? I stand corrected, thanks.
VT football is the one religion I think you're safe discussing here.
More like, "U Broke!" Am I right, Warren.
whether anyone thinks it was Loeffler's or Shane's fault

Do these numbers include the QB? Seems like they would.

It's not necessarily the idea of a running back rotation that people hated. It was how it was applied. A true workhorse back getting 30+ carries a game is no longer the norm. RBs taking alternating series or a guy coming in when the main back needs a breather is to be expected. But our RBs were practically swapped out every play in some drives and could never get into any kind of rhythm. We saw how important that was with McMillian at the end of last season and with JC at the end of the season before that. On top of that, when certain backs were in, any defense worth a damn knew the handful of plays that were possible with that particular back.
To make a ridiculous analogy, Look at Hawkeye or Green Arrow (depending on your Marvel/DC preference) and the specialty arrows they have in their quivers. If the dude pulls out an exploding arrow, everyone knows something is about to blow up. If he pulls out an arrow with a grappling hook on the end, you know what's next. We used our RBs like specialists. They might as well have trotted out there with a short list of potential plays taped to their helmet.
Fortunately, whether anyone thinks it was Loeffler's or Shane's fault is irrelevant, since they are both gone.

# | Sleeker Settle Making Noise on a Deep Defensive Line, Tremaine Edmunds Set for Breakout Year I know it's impossible to quantify, but how many yards did he save catching very difficult rollers or bouncers? If we had that data, I'd add it to his return yard total and would venture a guess to say it'd be pretty significant.
Then what is your point? What huge issue is he creating? is losing 5 yards sometimes have a significant statistical or even mental effect on our team's ability to score? Is getting 10 yards instead of 2-4 mean we score significantly more points? Who would be better back there? Is there someone who is as equal a threat to score but also willing to put that player in harms way?
My main point is I have no idea what else you guys expect. He's a potential weapon at punt returner and he doesn't make the mistakes which are much more hurtful than the upside of a 10 yard return. If he had an issue with handling the ball, then yes, that is an excellent reason to want a new punt returner.. Who did you want? How would they have done it better?
This just seems like complaining for the sake of complaining.
I can think of twice when he really went backwards and lost yards, but am probably missing at least one. If you eliminate those his average would be as different as if he did not have Tulsa. I think he has a good chance to rid himself of the bad habit of running the wrong way in the off season with good coaching, and hope we will all be glad to see him returning this year.
| Year | School | % Lead Back Carries |
|---|---|---|
| 2009 | TCU | 25% |
| 2010 | TCU | 28% |
| 2011 | TCU | 23% |
| 2012 | Memphis | 24% |
| 2013 | Memphis | 46% |
| 2014 | Memphis | 33% |
| 2010 | Memphis | 28% |
I think there is a little more rotation than maybe some other schools, but I wonder how much of that is just to the fact that he didnt really have any lead backs to work with at the time, or if it was a two headed situation. I expect Travon, Shai, Sam to get a good amount of carries, maybe even McClease and Coleman Fox whos looked pretty good in the rare snips we get.
Hooism is a religion. VT Football is life.
Proof: they read from their holy scripture during games.

So if I respond to a question about my religion on a political phone survey as believing in VT Football, does that mean I can't post here?
May the best man win and always have a fresh set of legs.

# | Sleeker Settle Making Noise on a Deep Defensive Line, Tremaine Edmunds Set for Breakout Year Never claimed it would have a drastic effect on our w/l record. Prior to the Tulsa game how would you classify his performance as a PR? I gave you the statistics do with them what you will...
No one ever suggested using a possession WR as an alternative either and if you are getting 7 YPR instead of 4 that likely means you have had some larger returns, on average, than the guy getting 4.
I gave him credit for Tulsa, but when one game doubles your YPR you weren't having a very good season, period.
If you can show me how statistically, over the long run, having a middle of the road return game has a drastic effect on our win/losses then I will care about that. In the meantime, Stroman's punt return for a TD against Tulsa very well could have been the difference between winning and losing Beamer's final game. I'll take the electric guy who can spark the offense with the occasional big return any day over some possession receiver getting 7 ypr instead of 4.
Also coming up from GSO (Kernersville). Time to tailgate TBD. 16 year old typically comes with me, and having a designated driver is worth waiting for him to get off work, so I'm waiting for his work schedule to make plans. Might try to take campus tour with him before the game if he wants to, but the OOS tuition is prohibitive, so we will probably tailgate if there is time, or I will go with other friends and leave earlier if his schedule won't let him go.
Despite opinions on a film, which I do understand, on what is cheesy, sappy, happy, or stupid, a horse always deserves another leg, especially for calling me a movie, even if it's stupid.
From personal experience the whole thing regarding walk-ons is a sore spot with me - one which I really should get over. That said, Sam Rogers deserved an opportunity out of high school to play Division I football. It's hard to understand why so many missed the ball on him. Did he go to the wrong high school, have the wrong coach, was too short, too slow, too weak, have the wrong color hair and too many freckles, was himself stupid and had no clue what to do on a football field, or everybody was in on the gag so that one day we could have a truly inspiring movie called Sam? I'm an older guy now and this Mr. Rogers inspires me to be something better than I am. This Rudy guy, on the other hand, was just taking up space. Maybe some player, somewhere did not get his shot at Notre Dame because he was there. We can never know. I relate more to that other Hoosier state movie, Breaking Away.
Dalton making Clemson's DE's look silly...
Worth noting both those ends were 5-star recruits: Ricky Sapp #7 and Daquan Bowers #93
Well, at least you warned us that you're doing little more than beating a dead horse. But yeah, Fuente's history shows us that you'll likely be disappointed if you want a RMFW or DW or DE type of workhorse back. That's just now how it really works anymore. Having a running back rotation like we did the past few years was a) not VT-specific and b) not necessarily bad (contrary to popular belief).
I'M SO EXCITED YOU GUYS DON'T EVEN KNOW

Everything!!!!

WE BAK DOE!!!!
I don't even think it's close that Hill is the best player on the team. He's the best defender, 2nd best pure scorer (Allen), 2nd best shooter (Bibbs), 2nd best ball handler (Rob), 2nd best driver (Allen) and 2nd best wing rebounder (Clarke).
Bloooobs! Bluuuubs! Bleewwwwbs!

Lil' Beams.
I like it.
