First off - this discussion would be so much easier if everyone simply stopped comparing state talent by Top 10s. Different states have different depths of blue chip talent.

I hope you and others understand that when FSU gets 10 of the FL top 50, it's the same as VT getting all TEN of the VA top 10. So they can afford to let lots of instate talent slip through their fingers, to the degree that we cannot.

That said, you're correct that VT has to rely on out of state talent more than we have in the past. But this isn't new. It's mostly because there never HAS been enough talent in VA to sustain a Top 10 program.

We need to get our share of the VA blue chippers because we're a state university, and we have a VA first philosophy as a program. But we need to get the majority of our blue chippers from out of state. Maybe 1/3 VA, 2/3 out of state.

Im just still stuck scratching my head about:

I'm proud to say Tennessee is cheating.

The only people I've known with this kind of mentality are career criminals or crazy ex wives.

Yes, and it DOES matter. It reduces the cost of sustaining the program.

I'm not going to downvote you, but your comment is wreckless and irresponsible. Cheating is a pretty strong allegation, especially considering there is no evidence to back up your claim.

I equate this comment to me saying "you cheat on your wife, whether you want to believe it or not". Then backing it by saying "everyone does to some degree so you do, too".

From Frank's book, regarding his visit to 5* Macho Harris:

Macho grabbed that quilt and put it over the fire, and all of a sudden the fire went whoosh right up into his face. Cav helped clean up the mess while I watched the little kids , but when we looked at Macho, we saw some bad burns on his face and his right forearm. If anybody knows about that, it's me.

We knew we had to get him to a doctor, but there was one catch: NCAA rules.

There are very specific recruiting rules preventing us from driving prospects during off-campus visits, no matter the circumstances. But we also knew he needed treatment immediately. One of his family members drove the car and I rode with Macho and his mother to get him to VCU's hospital while Cav stayed behind to clean up the mess.

Everyone has stupid little things that happen - an extra text message, incorrect forms filled out, whatever. But "cheating" connotes something much worse. Frank was a man guided by such a strong moral compass that he hesitated to drive a kid with burns to a hospital for fear of running afoul of the NCAA rules, something that any sane person would absolve later had he done it. But no. He adhered to the rules. Unless and until there is actual evidence that VT is doing anything wrong, I remain steadfast in my belief that we grew and prospered by living within the applicable rules. Just because there is an assumption that "everyone is doing it" does not make it true.

Agreed. I hardly ever downvote anyone unless it's blatantly and patently offensive. I never downvote for differences of opinion, and I'm especially lenient with fans of opponents (homerism factors in somewhat). If someone says something I disagree with, I will counter it with as cogent an argument as I can make. If the conversation devolves into name calling and just overall negativity, then I stop commenting and may be inclined to downvote.

I seriously hope the Vol guy hasn't been DV'd enough to not post. Overall, I've enjoyed his presence for a while and overall football discussion. We may not agree (and I will challenge you as hard as I can with that) but I'm all for friendly discussion.

I get your point. I really do. But most people are going to need some sliver of evidence to believe that all teams cheat. Do I think it happens in more places than those they get caught? Absolutely. But I'm certainly not going to go around saying that everyone cheats because that just isn't a fair statement to make.

See, the difference here is Ole Miss has been charged by the NCAA for violations- meaning there's evidence.

Now you're sitting here saying "I think everyone does it, so there. You cheat." That's not evidence.

No but I live just south of 460 on 156. Coached 7 grade ball for oldest son when they needed help. Got to a lot of good people and some real strange ones. We lived there for 12 yrs before moving to Cincy.

Don't you think we should have more than 3 starters from the 757? There was way more talent than just Bucky, Moto and Clark. THAT is the problem...

Question for fellow beer gurus:

I recently acquired a dual tap kegerator. The packaging purports that it has SS faucets and a tower. I ran the first keg through it around New Years with little issue. I just put another keg on last Friday, and I have had some strange off-flavor issues. If left unused for a while, the first few sips taste absolutely horrible. Like a metallic/bitter taste. Once you pour that out and keep filling, the taste is basically gone. I did some research and thought the taste might be from overcarbonation, so I experimented with that. Turned my cylinder off, cut off the CO2 line, and burped the keg from the coupler. Waited 30 or so minutes and tasted the trickle that was left in the line. Still had the terrible flavor.

I'm down to thinking it's either bad flavor from the lines or from some of the metal parts. It claims to have SS faucets and tower at least, but I'm 99.9% sure the shank, coupler, and other metal surfaces touching the beer are chrome-plated brass. I've heard a lot about that corroding over time and leading to off flavors, and potentially lead exposure (was lovely having a big Prop 65 warning right in my face when I opened the box).

Any thoughts on what this could potentially be? I'm seriously leaning toward investing in SS couplers and shanks and seeing if that alleviates the problem.

On top of the defensive boost the entire offense flows better when he is in the game. It doesn't show up in the stat line but he is a key cog in the machine while Robinson adapts to college basketball.

I wouldn't say vastly different at all. VT right now is a rebuild.... Middle of the pack ACC school that had a legendary coach hang on a couple years to long.

In our case VT has 1 QB who had a semi decent string of games. 1 RS QB who had some issues off the field he now has fixed. 1 JUCO QB who looks the part and 1 TRUE Freshmen QB.

Call me biased but I'd put the following QBs win total at:

Evans 8
Motley 6
Lawson 6
Jackson 5

I understand that you guys don't get it, it's on for Tech to cheat, that's what college sports recruiting is now. It's not 1960. College basketball recruiting is so slimey it makes football look like nothing. Trust me you guys cheat, it's ok. Like I said, it's not always a bidding war, but for a recruit to "come across" a $100 bill here and there happens.

I hate setting expectations. I want to believe we can win, but don't want to be disappointed if we don't. But I do think we can be in all of them. We will probably get one more "the team did not show game", likely on the road, hopefully Miami if there is one. We may get one more loss to the refs, hopefully the same game. The rest should be close, with some upset chances at home. I hope we get a hopping crowd with homer refs for Pitt. With their aggressive style that cold tip it to us. I'd take 3.5 if setting the odds, and 3 if betting on those odds.
