Follow-up question: Not sure if you covered this in your "Wrestling for Dummies" post last week, and too lazy to look, so I'll just ask. Does the SV period always start in the neutral position, or do they do something else, like flip a coin to give one wrestler the option of starting position?
Haha bragghokie totally agree. People really are just trying to argue to argue - pathetically broke down the capitilization of people's names in a post. Totally unintentional by the way - but damn - really? a post with weak capitilization is going to hurt your feelings? As Chad Ochocinco would say, "child please."
These are probably the same folks who were complaining about motleys inaccuracies and turnovers during the season.
Sure, we've got football. And we took it out from under them by taking over their conference for 8 years whilst kicking them to the curb.
But that's not their point.
Spring Game. Counts double on their resume
Yep SV is sudden victory, essentially first TD wins
Fausz has steadily improved, a SV loss to Klimara then a win over jeske
For those of us not quite familiar with all the wrestling lingo, SV=Sudden Victory/Overtime?
thanks for the preview; looking forward to watching it this friday!
spelling!! who needs it.
And for those in the Raleigh area wanting to attend the match, the site is the Holshouser Building. Its essentially a conference center and ill be surprised if they have room for more than 500 people.
Fans Encouraged to Arrive Early for @PackWrestle's Friday Night Dual. Lots open at 5 PM, doors at 6 - FREE admission https://t.co/hwRzRGGfli— NC State Wrestling (@PackWrestle) February 9, 2016
If you are going in person, i strongly suggest you show up when doors open. Remember, VT PSU drew 5000 people earlier this year. I expect the few bleacher seats to be filled quickly:

She's not crying because she smashed her face. She's crying because she saw her reflection and realized she was wearing a UVA outfit
#sauses

are you sure your #sauses are not #sauces?? That may be the problem there.
Ok Coach Fuente ---I mean Coach ACrowne - get back to me after the season and we will discuss results.
I'm sick of all these fans arguing against change. You were comfortable with Beamer cuz he's been here for 30 years (love Beamer, not knocking him at all, he was an amazing coach and amazing guy and was great to me) You are comfortable with motley cuz he started some games last year. You are comfortable with .500 records. Come on people, you can't be comfortable to win in this day and age. You got to have a fire under your butt at all times and not be afraid to try new things out (new players and staff included). You can't be comfortable, which is what we have been for awhile now. You can't get over the hump with changes and risks. If we wanted motley as our qb, we would've kept loeffler as HC. We wojldve hired curt new some as HC. Because that's comfort and we are used to these faces. Get with the times, if we ever want to challenge for a national championship, we have to take risks and try new things and adapt to the way the game is going. To be comfortable will continue our downhill slide.
Let's turn this thing around and getting out of our comfort zone could definitely help that out.
VT is currently 15th in all-time wins among FBS, so we're just slightly behind UT in that regard. UT does beat VT with the national championships, but only one in the modern era (1998). Since 1998, however, UT has not had much success. 1 BCS bowl appearance, 0 conference titles with 3 SEC East titles, losing record against the top 25, and 6 losing seasons. Compared to VT's 6 BCS bowl appearances (1 national championship appearance), 5 conference titles, 5 ACC Coastal titles, 32-29 against top 25, no losing seasons and 8 straight 10+ win seasons.
So yes, all time UT is the better program, but VT has had far more success and relevancy in the past 15+ years.
'Motley' could easily be autocorrected to the non-proper noun version whereas the rest are either always or nearly always used as a capitalized word. Probably presumptuous to assume there's a deeper meaning here.
Edit: Just noticed they aren't all lower-case anyways, so probably not even as much to it as I thought. Probably... nothing to it.
I like to point this one out:
UVA's outright ACC championships since 1953: 0
VT's outright ACC championships since 2004: 4
I'm not sure where all of this motley affinity and affection is coming from
it's the Leal-truthers....they are back
Will do anything to aruge for whomever the current backup is and why he should play over current starter..../s....kind of
What's sad is most current college students don't even remember those days....
First of all, it bugs me probably more than it should that you consistently capitalized every name in your post except Motley. Disrespecting the kid doesn't help to drive your point home.
Secondly, I don't know if anyone is necessarily lobbying for Motley so much as they're just not ready to write him off.
I don't think it's accurate to say he has no shot. That's disingenuous.
There was a safety a few years ago that we didn't block from transferring to GT. he was able to transfer and play right away because of the NCAA hardship rule.
Is there really a huge need for more football practice fields? I would think that the full outdoor practice field and indoor facility can be used simultaneously and not have a huge need for more space. Plus, I would think that the coaching staff would prefer to be in one condensed space and having another field across Beamer Way probably isn't the best solution.
I do agree that the soccer facilities could use an upgrade, though I think the location is perfect. I believe that moving any of the athletic fields further away from the residential core of campus would be a mistake. For club teams and rec fields though, the location on Research Center Drive works well.
In a perfect (yet expensive!) world, I would tie improvements to Thompson Field, Rector Field House and the Johnson-Miller Track Complex together so that each facility functions to its max potential. I envision it like this:
1. Push the soccer field south slightly in order to add seating at both ends of the field (with the current east stands being revamped to be continuous with north/south stands). With McComas on the west, the field would feel hemmed in on all 4 sides. That would be a fairly unique atmosphere within college soccer stadiums. Also, by keeping Thompson Field in roughly the same spot, the soccer and lacrosse teams can keep their practice fields.
2. While the track in Rector Field House is top notch, spectator seating is lacking. While it doesn't need a huge amount of seating, adding it would make Blacksburg a great location in the Mid Atlantic region for larger indoor track meets (or even reach into Tennessee). Ideally, an expansion of the Field House could also connect to the south end of a renovated Thompson Field and provide locker room space for the soccer teams.
3. The Johnson-Miller Track Complex has one of the finest track surfaces in the country. Like Rector Field House though, permanent spectator seating could be improved to make it a premier track & field destination in the region. Right now, spectators can sit on the grassy hill adjacent to the track behind the field house. Since an expansion of the field house or entirely new construction would likely require a greater footprint, a decent portion of the hill may be wiped out. Permanent seating tied into retaining walls would be a good way to maximize the venue and make it a more attractive location for larger meets.
Holy assumptions Batman!
1. You have absolutely no clue on how Evans and Lawson would fare in Fuente's offense as compared to Motley.
2. You have absolutely no clue how well they would do if they were here last year in Motley's shoes.
3. You have absolutely no clue if the recruticorn's star rankings have or will translate into production.
4. To call Motley mediocre and to call his ceiling a backup with such a small sample size is ridiculous and naive.
5.
If motley was good enough he would've been starting over Brewer and before that Logan
Why wouldn't we put in an Evans or Lawson at that point?
Maybe because, you know, experience matters?
I am so tired of fans completely disregarding a player just because they saw some high school (or JC) film of a highly touted prospect. Its ridiculous. That said: I don't know who will win the job, but to say Motley has no chance is quite frankly, wrong.
Ok I'll admit "sucks" may have been strong for you guys. While I don't think you were near as good as your record showed, you certainly would have beaten us 6-7 times had we played head to head from 2005-2015
That would be interesting. I had kind of forgotten Bo Ryan stepped down in the early season. Not sure the specifics on whether his former assistant, Greg Gard will still be the head coach next year.
IIRC, Bo Ryan told the administration he wanted his assistant to be the head coach in waiting, or whatever. The administration said no, so he re-upped his commitment for the 2015-2016 season and bolted amidst the weak OOC games to start the season.
And if there is anywhere that Tony Bennett might go, its home. Otherwise, he has a pretty nice setup in C-Ville.
But flat out saying a team sucks even though they are winning games doesn't really make sense. Being outclassed by a better opponent doesn't mean your team is terrible.

Fuente recruited Paxton Lynch and decided to play him as a true RS freshmen over a senior that was already at Memphis and played the year before. So Fuente has shown he's going to play the best QB possible even if that means having to iron out some young mistakes during the year.
Motley has a chance but he would have to be miles and miles ahead of the other 3 qb's in that room. Like we said this past year with Brewer vs Motley vs Lawson if it's close the younger of the two qb's in contention will play. In that case Brewer (old warrior) won the job and Motley (young buck) filled in behind.
