Probably studying for the bar exam.
TG had been our DBs coach for ten years, which seems like a pretty long time to be an assistant at one school. It is unrealistic to think he would wait around to take over for Bud, especially when Bud stayed on as DC. I think we see going to Florida as a lateral move, but it terms of prestige, he's on a little bit bigger of a stage there. I see Florida being the stepping stone he needs to land a great DC job somewhere. I don't think we can really blame anyone for letting him get away, this move makes sense for him.
As an employee, you can also benefit from having multiple mentors over the course of your career. Guess that applies to both Gray and the VT DBs.
Crazy theory time. Put on your tinfoil hats, boys and girls:
What if the paycut was all an elaborate scheme by Coach Fu to get TG a raise? The rationale for the paycut, as I understand it, was to put all the position coaches on equal footing with respect to compensation. Given the total budget Whit gave him, this meant a decrease for TG, which predictably, attracted the vultures in the SEC, thinking they could swoop in and poach a great position coach like Torrian. Now we've established a fair market value for his services and can justify giving him the pay raise that so many of us think he deserves. Torrian gets paid, and the new guys don't feel like they're getting disrespected.
EDIT: Darn, I hadn't scrolled down and seen the comment about TG updating his Twitter bio. So much for that one. Good luck Coach! We'll miss you.
So I have been looking at the past ten years of draft classes at Virginia Tech, and quite frankly, none of them are impressive. Sure we have our Tyrod Taylor's, David Wilson's, and Kendall Fullers. However, in those lists we also have Cequan Jefferson's, Kris Harley's, and Aaron Brown's that underachieve.
Bud Foster is absolutely right in saying that this star recruiting is blown way out of proportion. Coaches and players alike are guilty of these self fulfilling prophecies and they don't seem to consider that the players might have a great deal of talent, but they might be arrogant, or lazy, or troublesome.
I take great pride that our Hokies are not the kind of people that are any of these three qualities. Sure, we have troublemakers, lazy students, and arrogant men (Lord knows I taught a few as a grad student at Virginia Tech). However, they seem few and far between (from what I've seen). My football players were always in class, and turned their assignments in on time. So yes, we didn't have a spectacular recruiting class (I think we've rarely have one). However, I don't know how everyone else feels, but I am PUMPED about this offense next season...
I've never thought TG was head coach material. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I'll be surprised.
Cause everything Natalie Dormer is High quality
Queen Marjorie. If you aren't watching GoT, then you must not like nudity, violence and Peter Dinklage.
My first impression is that this means Bud is here indefinitely. Gray saw the writing on the wall (or was told explicitly) that the position would not be opening up, and so he realized if he wants to be a DC or even HC (and let's assume he does), he needs to start expanding his resume now. Wish him the best, there might be some struggles at first, but I think we'll be fine.

No kidding, where's the spoiler alert, man? What if there are little kids reading this thread???
Hopefully there are no little kids reading this thread, since in addition to the Santa thing, their parents will now have to explain what "fist fucking" is. Just don't Google image search that...
if we're basing are valuations of coaches on bowl games, our secondary got torched vs tulsa and therefore no one should be worried about TG leaving.
Looking at a larger sample size, Memphis won more games the past 2 years than we did, i think we'll be ok.
I don't remember the exact question, but I think the "no decisions have been made" quote has been blown up too much. I think he was asked how he would move forward (after saying the Torrian news had not been confirmed), and this was a very generic answer.
Otherwise,
8:00 AM - no decision made
10:00 AM - decision had been made
It's still not necessarily false.
Natalie Dormer. I'd post her esquire gif but... work.
Exactly, we made them look like world beaters on defense when we were ranked 4 or 5 and then watched WVU drop 70 on them the next game they played.

# | Hokies Point to Encouraging Early Enrollees on an Otherwise Dreary National Signing Day for every 2-3* success story there is easily 7-10 players that don't work out, where as with every 5* success, theres maybe 1-2 5*s that are unsuccessful; it's about improving your odds.
But in all this class is solid, we "fixed" wr depth, have a healthy QB competition, and added bodies for the OL/DL.
Not a good look for Fuente when he's saying no decision has been made, etc., etc. There VERY clearly has been and he's not fooling anyone.
I think what's strange to me is having so much more confidence/hope in our offense than our defense. Most of the positives you named for the year applied for the offense and the one you mentioned for defense (D-line depth) really applies to DT's much more than DE's. Honestly with the primary offensive drawbacks this year being a somewhat new system for the offense and having a new QB under center (even though we have great prospects), I'm easily more confident in our offense then I have been in some time. Our current talent across the board is pretty darn impressive.
However I have found myself in new territory with the D. In the past I have felt that no matter what the defensive personnel looked like that Bud would come up with some way to field an above average to elite group. However with some weaknesses exposed these past few years and after some recruiting misses/some player's not panning out/ some players not working out for whatever reason (injury, discipline, let down, etc) I'm starting to get a little nervous...
It's not that I doubt Bud (I promise I believe in you Bud, please don't kill me) I think it's just maybe that Beamerball has spoiled me so much that I am used to always having consistent defense/special teams that can carry the offense on their shoulders. It certainly is unique territory for Hokie fans to be in.
PS: I still have faith that Bud will find a way. He always has and I believe he always will.
I def think this is a move so he can be a DC faster. not for VT though. hes consistently put 3 stars in the NFL now he will be working with 5 stars. I except to see him DCing a 2nd tier team in 3 years. everyone knows the fastest way to move up is hang out in the SEC. just ask Will Muschamp.

# | Hokies Point to Encouraging Early Enrollees on an Otherwise Dreary National Signing Day It does seem strange that Bud seems to be pretty high on Eron Carter, but he was rated a 2*. I realize that 5* players are more likely to do well and get drafter and everything, but it seems like coaches evaluating players for their scheme is more important. I don't see this class as that poor if our coaches went out and got players that they wanted.

Torrian Gray's new twitter bio.
Two out of the three worst offensive performances from a Chad Morris led Clemson offense were against our defense. The perplexing thing is how/why our offense performed so poorly against them.
I just want to know how that gif is such high quality
In 10-15 years, he will be looking like a Must Have head coach. I dream of the day when we can have coach TGray back. Good luck, I'll be rooting for your Defenses unless we play you.

sure, the idiom itself makes sense but given the context it was in I saw an opportunity to make fun of the silliness of its application.
The big picture is that pills make you better, right? Some pills are tough to swallow, but they still make you better. In the situation I was poking fun of, TG leaving is the pill. It's a hard pill to swallow. But I was trying to point out that I don't see how TG leaving will make us better. Therefore, the pill that we're swallowing is not making us better. useless pill. Silly application of idiom.
This conversation has gone on far too long. I'm not going to continue defending my admittedly poor attempt at humor in a time where I felt humor was needed. I never knew people had such strong viewpoints on silly (or not silly) idioms.
