I guess I haven't' spent enough time driving in MD to know the difference. I grew up in Charlottesville, spent 4 years in BBurg, and then 4 years in Asheville, NC before moving to Arlington. I don't necessarily think that there are worse drivers in one place than in another. I just think that the bad drivers stand out more in heavily populated areas. There are waaaaay more people so you've got a better chance of encountering a crappy driver here. If you consider how many stupid drivers you see in a week and compare that to how many drivers you see in total the percentage is probably just about the same nation-wide.

REALLY need Allen and Hudson to bump their 3 % up in to the mid-30's. Also like what Pierce brings, scoring down low, keeps a lot of balls alive on the offensive glass even if he's not securing the rebound.
True; I grew up in NoVA. But when I moved to MD, it was a whole new ballgame. Just amazing to me how these people got licenses and have managed to stay alive this long. The things I see every day along my commute continue to surprise and amaze me.

same story in NOVA. The whole region, really. Too many cars in too small of a space. Add weather to the mix and it turns into a disaster in no time.
I like us targeting these 4 star rated backs, but more importantly, I like how Burden is looking at a much bigger geographic footprint to find the guys that are right for the position at Virginia Tech under Fuente.

I dont know if were looking for a certain 'type' of runner, but AJ Dillon, and Adarius Lemons are very mean, downhill runners. They remind me a little bit of Marshawn, especially AJ. I like it.

Yes, I know it sucks, I'm strongly in favor of an early signing day to prevent it. Since we have to take a small class this year, we wanted him to blue shirt, maybe gray shirt, and he didn't want to do it. We have bigger needs and bigger recruits in our sights. It's not the first time and won't be the last. we dropped a kid last year that wanted to keep taking official visits, he went to Texas and is already transferring. We came out ahead because we got a 4 yr (probably 3) at MLB. It's a business. The downside to it is, the recruits aren't exactly business minded all the time. Again, it's not like I like it, but it doesn't bother me any. In the end, he'll find another school to go to, and we'll find another player.
Very cool. I grew up in Augusta County, 20 mins or so in Lexington. Lexington is a cool city to host a wedding- lots of shops, restaurants, and things to see around there. Best of luck with the planning - my wife and I are newlyweds (May '15)- it's a lot of fun when the party actually arrives. Planning can be frustrating, but fun at the same time.

# | BUZZKETBALL CENTRAL: Virginia Tech Hokies (11-6, 3-1) at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (11-6, 1-3) Noon RSN/ESPN3 It was a fun time. Bought tickets through the local Alumni Association's block and took my son to his first Hokies game. The Thursday night game was after his bedtime, so we just got a babysitter for that. It was a fun time and an exciting game. So exciting that he slept through most of the second half and woke up in time to watch us finish our comeback. But with regards to the officiating, I think most were just upset with a lack of consistency. Only a couple calls did people find questionable, but there was a few times, such as the officials stopping us taking the ball down the court to have a talk with the GT players about their behavior and the instance where one official called a foul on the floor, waving off the basket, while the other called it on the shot that got people upset. There were certainly many soft fouls called and then others that, by the precedent they had set, should have also been called, but that's the game. Still a fun time regardless.

Reading comments on websites doesn't tell the whole story of course. Were we or were we not Virginia centric? If we failed in our home state, we failed, in my opinion was wrong thinking. When I was at Tech we had lots of guys from Jersey, Tennessee, Georgia and other places. To them, even way back then, Tech was an attractive destination. So while we did have somewhat of a presence recruiting in Florida, North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania, it did not seem that we took advantage of the reputation we had built from the 90's and early 2000's to go hard in other areas. "Hey, Billy Bob, you folks in Arkansas play good football. We think you're a good fit with Virginia Tech. We'll be playing this Thursday night. Why not watch the game and we'll come out and visit you." Yes, there are constraints, money and time to get to see people from afar, but this staff which comes from somewhat further afar has opened up the playing field. Ostensibly, I don't follow recruiting like many, but that was my perception. Now, and maybe it's just the publicity that follows a new coaching staff, I think I see that any player anywhere is fair game.
I don't mind us popping around the country looking for recruits and spreading our brand as long as we take care of the recruits in our back yard. If we can just land the top recruits from Va., we will have a solid program. Great article Alex.
