Possible that the $57k will be put towards a budget for recruiting assistants, something that Fuente and Whit have said we will be adding more of.

Huge paycut for Wiles, and a substantial one for Gray, Fuente better be willing to give substantial raises next year to both as I expect our secondary to be strong . Scott is being overpaid, he better be a hell of a recruiter.

I'm with you; these salary moves don't make a lot of sense. Why would you cut salaries of returning defensive coaches? And on top of that have a surplus in the budget after the cut?

The pay cuts for Wiles and Gray surprise me a lot. The fact that Scott is making so much is also confusing to me. Young, only sharing coaching duties with Wiles (and maybe Bud?) from what we've seen/heard so far. I guess the "assistant head coach" comes with some perks, but this will undoubtedly cause some consternation among people about paying your close friend a whole lot of money relative to others with comparable duties and (possibly even better) resumes. Maybe he'll be given some recruiting duties, as well. Pay increases for the newcomers, on the backs of cuts to our existing staff (the guys he retained, outside of Burden) may also not sit well with some. Hopefully it doesn't matter to the staff; that's the most important thing.
I thought the idea was to make sure the RB *doesn't* get pulverized?

Add to that the fact that Fuente left $57k on the table, and the combined reduction for Wiles and Gray was $63k. Something about this isn't sitting right with me.

Well if people were worried about Gray leaving before they will be up in arms about this. Wiles took a sizable pay cut.
