Or teachers.
Because they deserve all the snark and derision we can give them. /s
Going to buy some after work. Then I am going to WIN, buy a private
jet and island. All TKP members and Hokies will be welcome!!
There were more problems on defense than just the D-line. But you don't reduce a coaches salary by around a quarter for one average year
I'll vouch for that, but I ain't complaining!
Heard Cocaine is a nice trip this time of year!
Stand at the register way tooo long just to piss off the people behind me, looking at the numbers, and "thinking". then all I do is fill in the easy pick box and hand it to the guy to run it. Oh and I want the original, can you break a 100$
Then I realize when I get home I played the F***ing mega millions. SHIT got to go do it again
More importantly what will you do with the money if you win?
Of course I'm Playing. What building should I get named after me at Tech when I win? I really hope it reaches a billion.
Knowing what Liberty is going be next year.... even if we did this we still might score.
Or a way of thinking..
Everyone is on equal footing in pay and can't use that as a way to pull rank. They can't say I been at VT forever, I know how it goes here and my paycheck shows it.
Maybe he wants his guys to all work as a team not bitch about someone getting more money just cause they were here before them and just let coaching and recruiting do the talking.
Who thought that everything Fuente was going to do would make us all happy and fangirls, it's not Beamer and his boys anymore. He's in charge and hopefully he has a reason for this that will be explain in time. Im sure he is going to be asked why alot?
Looks like they learned the lesson from UNCheat. If you provide stuff to the general population (like Frat boys not having to attend class- UNC) or Sorority Girls getting to ride on a nice boat (MU) more often than you give those perks to athletes, it is not special perks for athletes, and is outside of the NCAA's jurisdiction.
Actually, if you consider the titles, the pay cut makes A LOT of sense. Wiles was formerly the Running Game Coordinator. He isn't anymore. Change of title, change of pay.
No it's more like, "Thanks for your loyalty to Virginia Tech. As a thanks for that, we're going to give you a job because you are useful, but you'll have to take a paycut. So either take it or go find something else, move your entire family who is firmly planted here, and have fun riding the coaching carousel!" The optics are that this is a "brand new staff" and as such, they are being paid as though they are brand new. This would be completely different if Frank was still in charge, nixed the offensive side of the ball, hired new ones and then gave his other assistants pay cuts to make them all equal.
Edit: I should also add that if you think about is as though Bud was the only person who was retained and that each other coach was let go and then interviewed and rehired by Fuente, because that's basically what happened since Bud was the only one officially mentioned right away when the Fuente hiring was announced, then it makes a lot more sense.
Why not both? That's how I roll every 4 weeks.
Also, I bet "Sgt Carter" won't allow any hippie dippie hair dos on his staff.
That's a fair point. I think it's still a bit of a PR deal, though. Scott's only formal duties are basically assistant D-line, and yet he's making what Wiles' salary used to be, and Charley's got a couple decades of experience on him but is somehow to be paid less. Of course, Scott also has the Assistant Head Coach tag, yet we don't really know what that will entail.
You don't know the conversation that was had with Whit regarding the pay for each coach. Good lord you're getting far too heated about something that is less than a big deal. If Gray and Wiles were truly offended to take a paycut, they would be working somewhere else. Instead, conversations were clearly had that made everyone happy with the outcome.
But there is already a budget for that. Written into the budget was an option for an increase. There was and is NO reason to leave that money on the table.
If Whit really wants to cement his legacy, he'll get us a few of these.

No one questions that these guys are financially set. But the optics here, I think, are bad. "Thanks for your loyalty to VT. I'm going to cut your pay, give my guys big raises, and leave budgeted money unspent. Go Hokies!"
So as of today you have an issue with it because not all the money set aside has been used, which is a larger amount than we've previously spent? If you had $400k to buy a house but only bought one for $250k, was that extra money wasted? If you could take that extra money and renovate a little, buy a new car, new appliances, and new furniture, wouldn't it be well spent? So with regards to the coaches, if they announce next week that they've hired a few recruiting assistants, a top notch Strength and Conditioning coach, and increased the money available for recruiting, wouldn't that be well spent?
could be an incentive for them to boss up this year as well. Not going to lie but our d line was nowhere near as good as it should have been. We got pushed around early in the year and then held on late in the year when it mattered.
2015 ended with 26 sacks and 25 Turnovers.
2014 ended with 48 sacks and 22 Turnovers
that's a decent sized decline in sacks when we had our whole d line returning.
You don't need a coach to leave to determine their value. We know bud is underpaid, even more evident after he almost left for AM that was almost assuredly a substantial raise
I am really high on Buzzquetball right now, if Fuente can turn around the football team this fast then Whit will have cemented his legacy!
My first reaction to the salary news is that it's a mistake, the first large one I can see Whit allowing to happen. That's an issue we haven't even played a game of football under Fuente and this has become a talking point. Hopefully some more information will come out soon but right now not great optics.
