I doubt it. I just re-watched it. Two snaps prior, Stroman is lined up, hands on his hips, taking a few slow steps to the side that look a little less than solid to my eyes. He plays a bump and run coverage but (again, to my untrained eye) does not look full speed. That's at about 5:15 left in the 4th if someone wants to go back and look at it again. Two snaps later, Stroman is on the ground and limps off. The camera cutting to Bud doesn't make it clear what's happening on the field. It's not a good look. But it could be explained by any number of things, including Foster noting a player is not 100% and telling him to stop being and idiot and trying to play through it. There is no way to prove one way or the other that Bud was telling him to fake an injury given what evidence we have. I don't see how you or anyone can be so absolutely certain that he was.
Another reason why the NCAA needs to take over officiating and make all of them full time officials.
Stacy Searels has really done a great job in two years of righting the ship on the OL. The table is set pretty nicely for Vance Vice. I hope Searels gets a top quality P5 job, he deserves it.
What are you basing this off of? You assume the injury is fake why? Where is the actual evidence to back that assertion up?
Incidental helmet-to-helmet contact like in this play is getting called targeting way too much, which leads me to think they should have two penalties and have ejection only tied to the more serious call. Think of the old incidental facemask vs intentional facemask penalties. Implementing an incidental contact penalty would actually give the replay official something to look for during review as an objective standard in determining if contact was intentional or not.
The whole O line played well, no sacks and above 5 yards per carry average.
Why does this board always think that VT is the only ethical school in the NCAA? This isn't even that unethical, it's gamesmanship.
If that situation happened against us (and it will, next year), there is no doubt what is happening. None.

Wow. I don't really understand how or why the officiating has gotten so horrendously bad. I've heard complaints about officiating and certain calls for years but for some reason it seems like this year in particular has been worse than ever before at both the college and pro levels. So bad, in fact, that it's been discussed, sometimes at length, on prominent sports talk shows on national TV. I don't remember officiating ever being a topic of discussion on national TV with the frequency it has been this season. It's kind of outrageous. What is causing this seemingly drastic negative change in the quality of officiating?
The thing that gets me is, my understanding of the targeting rule is that helmet-to-helmet contact is supposed to be the initial contact between players, but I see targeting called (and upheld!) when the shoulder clearly makes contact first.

Isn't this exactly what happened in that Baylor game a few weeks ago? Pretty sure Kirk Herbstreit accused him of faking it because of his teammate saying to go down since he was injured but the guy wanted to keep playing.

Stroman was cramping and limping to get lined up, so Bud told him...correctly...to go down
Seems the sideline judge didn't like that call.

Actually I'm pretty sure one was thrown against VT in '14 and it got overturned. I remember being surprised that whole penalty, including yards, was changed, because in its first year I believe only the ejection could be reversed, but the yards would stand.

Yeah seems like he has (rightfully) gained the support of most Bills fans. However, there is a vocal group calling to get rid of him on twitter, granted, that's true about just about any player in regards to twitter.

Travon got hurt JC was seeing the field at some point no matter who the coach was.
Not only that, but if a player is trying to limp off the field and can't make it to the sideline by the next snap (a real possibility against today's no-huddle offenses), then that's a penalty on the defense. The general rule should be, if you're limping and need to come out, go down. That's not faking an injury, that's ensuring a player doesn't aggravate an injury by trying to hustle off the field.
I saw one picked up, I think in the first year the rule was implemented. The biggest problem with the rule, I think, is the codified phrase "when in doubt, it is a foul." No, there should be no doubt if you have video review. Either the rule was clearly broken or it was not. When tied with an ejection, you'd better be sure. Targeting calls are out of control. I am 100% for player safety, but the rule needs to be re-written with clear instructions and removal of the "doubt" phrase.
