These are the games I wish Buzz would make him focus the other attributes of his game. I am not saying he shouldn't score but with opponents like this he should be able to work on passing first and ensuring he is back and set on defense.

Fixed. That was supposed to say "with VT," meaning there's another major program competing for basically all the same recruits he's targeting. But my word confusion screwed the pooch there.
Older plays don't mean much. They still need talent and no matter the amount of older Mormon players every coach in the history of BYU has had to recruit other talent to BYU.
BYU has had some good runs for sure, but going independent was a bad move for them. It hurt recruiting and program trajectory.
Most of their games were against a relatively weak schedule.
same can be said for Fuente, Herman, Morris and they were the top 3 coaches on the board for most fans. Bronco can coach. Not saying he is anything near Fuente. Just saying that he is better than some are giving him credit for.
His teams have gotten recognition for playing dirty. Remember that gif of the guy hitting another player in the nads?
This is true and a real knock on Bronco. He seems to have a real love of 1970s style dirty football. There is something to be said about toughness but his teams are over the edge with a huge chip on their shoulder. So he has mountain to climb to get the Zima drinking pansies to his expectation of toughness.

Right so I guess what I am suggesting is that much like the tourney. Every conference champion gets a bid to the playoff (Notre dame and the other independents won't be happy). Then you can make the statement that the most deserved teams would be in.
Regrettably, this is a great hire for UVA. I just wonder if they realize it. Bronco coaches a solid, fundamentally sound, unspectacular brand of football. The guy has never had a losing season over an 11 year head coaching career. That's pretty incredible. He's exactly the kind of coach who could start to undo the damage of of the Groh and London era by turning the Hoo football program into...y'know...a football program. He's not gonna take them to the playoffs, but I could see him leading LOLUVA to an 8 win season before long.
The only problem I see is, Bronco has spent his entire head coaching career at a school with an innate, sustained recruiting pipeline. He won't have that at with VT (meaning competition for the same recruits), and I don't see him as the kind of coach who can make the same connections in the 757. London got in with those kids and schools by promising more than he could deliver, and trying to live up to his bargains destroyed what remained of the UVA football program. I don't think Bronco is the kind of coach who will promise playing time to land a recruit.

Hopefully it'll be a wake-up call and he can get it turned around

Most other leagues have established rules for how to make the post-season. If the conference champions had a clear route to the playoffs then, this would make a lot of sense. However, since they don't, i think it's hard to justify a big "Surprise! You won your conference, but you're not making it this year." At the end of the season since there is nothing else to gauge success along the way.
As much as we love to debate the week to week rankings, wouldn't the discussion at the end of the year be just a little bit more pure if you don't have to worry about who beat the #1 team in country in week two? The NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, and MLS all don't have rankings, they let the records of the teams do the talking.
The professional sports leagues have an autobid process where there can't be a tie for a playoff spot (except MLB, but they have a way around that). CFB does not.
Pretty much what I was going to say. I'd like to do away with preseason rankings, too, but even without the actual rankings, all sports media will still prognosticate about what the rankings should be rather than debating what they are. There will be no escaping it; it's ingrained in the sport.

It'd be nice if we were able to do that, but as you mentioned, the sheer number of teams in college football makes going purely off of record pretty much impossible. Add in that ESPN and other pretty much make a living (and by "living" we mean "several billion dollars") off of the intrigue created by arbitrary rankings, and that's something that just won't change.

# | Fuente Kicks Off Recruiting Effort with Outreach to 2016/2017 Commits and Recruits The thing that we all know is that we need to win the big recruits instate, and start landing more in a wider out of state region. To win the in-state kids and keep them from leaving for FSU, Bama and the like we need to be winning and be an attractive system. I think Fuente brings that, and we all believe Fuente Foster aka Fuesterball is gonna be something special.
So the question is how does Fuente get in recruits to ensure we start winning and hopefully in style like his Memphis team was. And I think this is one of the most exciting things from my perspective. This guy knows how to recruit. And by that I mean, he knows how to evaluate the 2 and 3 star kids and pick out the gems. We all want those crazy 5 stars but its gonna take Fuente plugging some holes with overlooked talent to get to the point where those 5 stars are wanting to all come to the burg. And fortunately on top of his evaluation skills, Fuente and staff bring in new territory. We are no longer limited to the few diamonds int he rough in VA. He seems to have the inroads for those in OK, TX, TN and elsewhere which means it hopefully will be easier for the Hokies to become a complete team for once. A team that looks great, except for depth at WR... except for LBs... except for young DEs... except for etc, etc.
So excited about that. I can't wait to see the team roster over the next couple years and see 5 to 10 kids from middle america to combine with VA and our normal pipeline talent.
On the other hand, at BYU Mendenhall got older players who still have eligibility when they're 23. They weren't looking anywhere else because this is their option. BYU had a history of top 20 teams for decades before Bronco showed up. Oh, and they went independent because they wanted to (money, exposure, etc). I don't think this was a bad hire by Virginia, but some of his prior success was, because, BYU. If you're Mormon, are you going to follow Bronco to UVa, or go to BYU? And if you're a Virginia player, are you going to want to play for Bronco, or someone else? I guess the jury is going to be out for a while.
I still think VT got a much better coach, AND got to keep Bud on defense.

Seriously, there really isn't much recovering from that. Well would want to coach for that AD and who would want to play for a school whose administration does that? The only choice of action is to clean house in the Athletic Department and start over.
