# | Can We Talk About How Good Our New Special Teams Coach, James Shibest, Is Going To Be? I read Let Me Be Frank a few months ago, and it was pretty interesting Beamer talking about Special Teams.
He said that formations, coverages and protections have changed that make it extremely difficult to block punts now, and its part of the reason he said they've changed their approach in recent years and pick their times when to go after it and when not to.
Not disagreeing there. But both Ford and Phillips seemed to do just fine. But too many people get lost in absolutes and don't look at actual stats. Ford and Phillips were not the ONLY WR's to get on the field, they were just by far the best ones.
We had the Hokie Bird show up at our wedding. Enter Sandman played, Hokie Bird came out and danced and partied with us for like 2ish hours. It was awesome! The UVA grad who was a bridesmaid was super confused tho.

# | Can We Talk About How Good Our New Special Teams Coach, James Shibest, Is Going To Be? Yeah, they really dont go into detail of how FEI scores are calculated, other than, "its a way to attribute point differentials to a phase of the game based on a cumulation of every snap".
That being said, there was something out there that showed a really strong correlation between FEI ranking and team rankings/winning percentages, so youve got that going for you.
That being said, it looks like BeamerBall is in good hands.

But I do think that we will see more kneeling in the end zone on kickoffs, fair catches at the right time on punt returns, and good coverage on punts and kickoffs.
What we really need is a breakdown of number of snaps played. Did Asante, Knowles, etc. play in addition to Ford/Phillips or did they replace them? That's probably something you'll only get from coaches' stats and video, but it would be interesting. Number of catches is a flawed metric, but it really is clear that we had 2 WR all season and a couple guys that came in for a couple plays.

If every one of these scenarios happen, UNC has a very high chance of getting in. They are one play away from being undefeated right now, and have won nearly every game convincingly. If the committee looks past any media bias, I think UNC would make a great case.

Then how come every coach who coaches in the SEC would take any team in any other conference to the championship game in said conference most of the time? Saban and Bama are not the only things the general public (ESPN) drool over in the SEC. It seems like any time a team in the SEC gets docked for their W-L record (Georgia) the common response is "well, but that's in the SEC." It's not the Bama Bias. It's the SEC bias.
But they and I think Caleb and maybe one other WR were on the field for plays. Giving some "rest" to the two best by a WIDE managing WR's on the team.
idk I find it really really odd that not ONE WR made an appearance this season other than asante

I wonder if their pitch to CFB was "wouldn't it be cool if we could pull this off a couple times a game?" and Beamer got swept up in the excitement.
Asante and Knowles each had 1 catch all year. That really doesn't do much to support this argument. Sure, we're using TEs as receiving threats because Bucky's measurables and Malleck's sure hands, but when Brewer and Motley each have the same number of catches as the next guy with WR next his name, that really says we have no WR depth.
