Houston is dumping ALOT of money into their football program. They have a lot of weathly donors in the Houston and Dalllas areas.
They are not mutually exclusive, it just so happens that outside of the top 5-10 programs in the country, most coaches are usually great at one, and good at the other, not necessarily both. Otherwise they would be an highly coveted coach targeted by elite programs sooner rather than later. I'll gladly stick with my hope for coaching and development as #1, rather than recruiting as priority #1.

I can't help but wonder if they know that he's going to leave and decided to give him a big contract so the school at least gets a healthy buyout as a consolation prize.

One more thing that I forgot to share from the night before the NC State game. Because I live in Massachusetts, and they don't exactly interview a lot of Tech players up here, I study the media guide for player faces so that I can try to recognize as many as possible as they stream into the hotel. I don't always get it right. Big ol' Wade Hansen came through the lobby, and I meekly asked him: "Are you Joey Slye?" He laughed, and grinning said, "No, Joey is my Mini-Me!"

I'm thinking VT will be paying a good $3.5 - 4M for the new coach.
Not unless you hold it against me that I went to Darden. My husband who has his master's in IEOR from Tech cannot understand why I don't root for UVa. I grew up in a Hokie household, and I will always be a Tech fan.
By the way, I think that more women than you may think read TKP. We're just not as good at posting. I can't contribute to the X's and O's discussions, but I love to come here to learn from y'all who do as well as read all the fun, silly comments.
