That's actually called wishful thinking. Winning and recruiting is a job requirement for every coach, yet somehow few succeed at it.

Very few neutral observers think 1) that VT underachieved over the last 20 years and 2) that VT didn't recruit as well as it should have.

Roll call for cheap bastards watching the game at home: me

Just putting this out there- if your primary issue with the end of the Beamer era is that recruiting and talent dropped off, then why in the blue hell would you endorse hiring of a coach that struggled to recruit and then effectively develop top end talent AT MICHIGAN of all places that runs an offense that doesn't attract NFL caliber talent to Blacksburg? Lowest win % in the history of the school. Bad relations with athletic departments and boosters. And that doesn't begin to touch on his personality and snake oil-salesman reputation.

To me, that is doubling down on every problem with the program and creating new ones. Why would you do that?

Sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers headed your way.

How is it a miss? He didn't sign on to any schools football team. Did VT track offer him? Were they even in the running? I seem to recall UF having a premiere track team.

Shame. This guy is a pretty fantastic athlete. But I always thought his main interest was track and football was somewhat lukewarm with him. Maybe our new coach can convince him to flip? Or is he set on track for sure?

Georgia Tech manages to circumvent this defense mechanism, and that is where we truly ascend to artform status. We have just enough success to make you think it's possible you won't be disappointed this time around. For me, peak disappointment was the 2011 season. Multiple OT losses to division rivals & MTSU, somehow making the ACCCG only to lose on the final drive.

GT seems to remember 2011 differently than we do.

This assumes that anybody will make a significant difference. And that is a huge assumption.

I found this paragraph later in the article particularly poignant...

"The grass is always greener at Next Coach's house, and he always makes perfect hamburgers, just the way you like them. Next Coach wins all the big games and the small ones, and he represents everything you love about this program and its traditions."
