I agree 100%. I really, really like Loeffler. I think the guy is incredibly brilliant when it comes to the X's and O's, and he flat out knows how to coach QBs. He's gotten some QB's here the past few years that might not have even considered us in years past. He really is building a culture and a system on offense...
But, like you, I also worry sometimes that his brilliance might just result in him overthinking a lot of things and overcomplicating the offense to the extent that nothing is cohesive. From what I can gather, he is really trying to install a lot of complex NFL-style offensive concepts. With the way we use all these different shifts, formations, and substitutions, I really hope that it's not just an exercise in futility with what he's trying to accomplish.
But, I'm incredibly excited about this season. This will be a huge litmus test year - not just for Loeffler's merit as an OC, but for the program as well. I have a lot of confidence that with the talent he has amassed on that side of the ball, we can finally start to see his true vision for our offense, and I hope it takes off.

I actually didn't see that many assignment issues from you guys last year. We brought more than you could block a good amount of the time and on a lot of key plays when we brought less, we were able to have a defender win a on-one-on matchup and make a play. That being said, it wasn't like all of our defenders were consistently dominating.

I, too, lean toward the personnel/inexperience argument, if only because, goddammit, Scot Loeffler knows some fucking football. I mean, if 99% of us sounded like he just sounded above, it would be because we're having stroke. That's why I've been so adamant about giving him time. Everything he says about the way an offense should be run makes logical sense. But I can't throw out the possibility that Lefty is too smart for his own good, and that his entire scheme might be an exercise in overthinking things.
Either way, I'm excited as all get out for this season. If the offense is ever going to click, this should be the year. And if it does, we could be in for a very special season.
If he has some snaps under his belt, I think Nijman may be an option too.
I believe the problem with translation has been more about personnel than his ability to coach and scheme. Our best offensive players last year were either highly inexperienced in the college game or with his system.
Money in the bank for 2015: You will see bad things but you will see more great things than you've seen in a very long time out of this offense.
That's why we'll win the division :)
