this is a pretty legit question. I know we cant go fund me for players.... atleast I think the NCAA would shut that down but if you think about how BIG hokie nation is... if we all donated just $20.00 (im this is only from the 65,000 in lane stadium on a given Saturday not even all of hokie nation that's 1.3 mill. add that on whatever the school can pay a coach and BOOM we can afford for no one to ever leave that we want to stay. im just sayinggggg

Other coaches also already had big OLinemen on hand to make use of...BC was a run first team which recruited big OLs before Addazio got there. It seems that most people tend to undervalue the importance of having a good OL for offensive production. When you inherit an offense that already has big OL players who played OL in HS and were recruited as such you have a big headstart on what Scot had to work with at VT. Pre-SL we built OLs mostly by transitioning players who couldn't make it on the DL or having TE recruits bulk up to play on the line. We didn't start bringing in true OL recruits consistently until after Loeffler was hired. And even then, they were being coached by different coaches every year for 3 years running. Not only is it important to recruit actual OLinemen for OLine positions, but to field a competent group you need to develop consistency and chemistry among them. VT hasn't had the opportunity to do that until this off season. We're still concerned with our depth on that unit but all reports suggest that the first team looks to be a decent unit for the first time in years. The offensive line takes the most amount of time to rebuild and that unit was an absolute mess when SL arrived. Our offense goes as the OL goes so it's not at all surprising that we've struggled in recent years. The struggles can be directly correlated to our shortcomings on the OL which can be attributed to lackluster recruiting from the stinespring era, poor coaching by newsome, and the nature of the beast that is rebuilding an OL from scratch.

Oh, I agree. I was just commenting on the above comment about how every year there's talk that he's going to break out and how that was similar to Marcus Davis in that every year was supposed to be 'his year'. Personally, I like Knowles and I hope that he goes out with a really big year.

Its good to hear Vinny is happy and productive moving to DE and that he originally wanted to play there anyway. All too often recently I feel guys have been moving positions to help the team (which shows great responsibility) but you know they must be bummed inside about not playing where they wanted to be.

Also, I love hearing Dmac talk about straightening out his attitude. Its great that he took ownership to recognize how he was, remove himself, and come back when he knew he was better.

What I know is that Lefty was hired to install a run-heavy/play action pass offense. To accomplish that style of offense, the critical elements are excellent run-blocking linemen and several top shelf running backs who can get lots of yards after contact.

1) I'm not totally sure Loeffler knows what offense he's supposed to run given how the offense changes every week.

2) That sounds like the offense Steve Addazio installed at Boston College.

BC 2012: 4.9 yards/play (96th), 25.1 pts/game (86th)
2013: 5.9 yards/play (36th), 28 pts/game (65th)

He then had to replace his QB, his RB, his top receiver and three offensive linemen. I bet their offense stunk last year.

2014: 5.5 yards/play (59th), 25.1 points/game (86th)

A drop off, but still functional and still better than VT. Apparently if you actually have a consistent philosophy you can make it work.

If people want to argue that Loeffler needs more time, that's fine- just admit that other coaches have been able to get tangible results in shorter amounts of time.

In the NFL, one season can be the end of your career. If you're at the peak of your game in year 3 of a 5 year contract, you should get paid that way because the contract was structured 3 years ago when you weren't there. Sure, you can wait until year 5, but get injured in year 4 that ends your career and you will never see that money.

Exactly. He and his agent signed a contract when they already knew he was one of the best players in the league. This isn't a rookie contract. He is getting paid good money for a safety.

Do your time and get a better contract in a year or two. The frequently renegotiate when there is 1 or 2 years left on a contract, not three.

He's an employee not property. It shouldn't be so one-sided. it takes two parties to enter a contract and to honor the terms of the contract.

Engrave this on a plaque, hang it above the door at TKP world headquarters.
