Then you have Under Armour/Kevin Plank giving Maryland cash by the barrel-full. It takes a lot of private donations to keep up with those figures. Makes me want to boycott Under Armour. After all, it's just polyester with a UA logo.

That was my first thought. According to Mirriam-Webster, "voistrous" is not a word, or at least not in the dictionary.

And we still need to make sure we keep Settle, like any other kid, actually in school during his eligibility. I doubt that a kid who barely qualifies actually has more trouble than his teammates at staying eligible, those are likely the kids that the academic infrastructure is most focused to support. But, still, just because a kid qualifies doesn't really mean that much. He has to actually contribute, and Reavis was ready to do that.
(Of note, I would consider us equally deep at both positions)
Unless we're saying the team as a whole is decimated, in which case 8-10 overall is what we're looking at.
Meanwhile, Andy's list had 14 players out for the UVA game...
So same defense as last year, maybe a little better plus at least an average offense makes this kind of hypetrain darkhorse on a treadmill talk not that far fetched.
Actually, losing that many games would suggest we're better than our record. Over the long run, winning percentage in close games hovers around .500, and having a losing record in those games in one year is one of the better predictors for a team improving in the next. We may be inching towards respectability just by reverting to the mean (not to mention all the other fun stuff like actually improving).

I'm going to be that guy and point out that being "decimated" by injuries would actually be a huge improvement.
To be decimated in this case would mean to only lose 1/10th of our starters, or 2-3 players. Not too bad after last year.
I think his go-to brand of khakis is Dickies. I'm sure everyone will find a joke in there somewhere.

And on the opposite side of the ball, if our defense was a touch more elite and allowed 1 less TD we would have been at least 9-3 in the regular season with a possibility for 10-2 after OT against ECU. Oh and we still would have lost to WF, but that's neither here nor there. To me, that's indicative of how close the games were and how really, we were just an average team last year. 7 games were 1 score games. We were just on the losing end of 5 of them.
1 more touchdown in every game last year would have made us 10-2 or 11-1.
Heck, just a FG in each game would have gotten us to 8 or 9 regular season wins. (GT would have forced OT, and I'm working on the plan that WF would not score in regulation regardless of what we did.)
The cash breakdown includes $4.82 million each year in base compensation for the first 10 years of the deal, then $5.32 million in 2026-27. In the final four (option) years, UM would get $5.82 million per year.
So per year payout in cash is actually not that high.
