The SEC is adding nothing for them from a basketball standpoint, which is ultimately what they care about. And you are right they would compete in the ACC football wise, even though they would still be mid to bottom tier which is no different from where they are now.
It wouldn't add much for the ACC footprint, but really there arn't many SEC teams that would outside of Tenn.

You bring up a good point, and one that I think has been overlooked in the entire discussion leading up to the game, namely the VT offense. First, let me preface that by saying even I recognize the ridiculousness of the concept of "overlooking" what has been a bad offense the last few years.
But looking at the game from last year, the VT offense was equally as responsible for that W. The #s don't suggest an above average effort, but the plays were there to be made all day long, and kept being made particularly on 3rd down to extend drives. And that was with in effect the top 4/5 skill position players all being true or redshirt freshman, and a QB making his 2nd start in the system just as JT was.
I think that the Buckeye defense could have a real problem with Bucky Hodges (granted a lot of teams are going to have trouble with him this year), and Ford and Phillips have had another year to develop their skills. The OL will be at least as good as, if not better, than the group that ran out there last year, and Brewer will be healthy, which is something I don't think he was most of last year specifically because of the pounding he took in that game in the Shoe.
While I have no problem with the Buckeyes being favored, I think they do face the very real prospect of playing a team that beat them at home last year, but with perhaps a better defense AND offense than what they ran out last year...on their home field.
Meh, that aspect has been improving (for the most part) and apparently there's a brand-new re-balancing coming in the next month or so. Besides, it looks far, far better than the old Mechwarrior games, even if there's no single player.
I have, but its not the same...plus that whole, paying for better mechs is no me gusta

My guess is they stay independent until the last minute when it becomes obvious they would be left out, and then the ACC or even the AAC where they would have a bigger say and immediately be the big boy on the block; plus if you have an 8 con playoff the AAC would be easier to win than the ACC.
Played Mechwarrior as children? I'm assuming you haven't seen Mechwarrior Online then.

1. $$$$$
2. They are good fit academically and in sports
3. $$$$$
4. They would give the B1G a big footprint in the southeast, especially if we added Kansas
5. Did I mention the incremental revenue they would bring in?
I would guess the SEC would also make a run at them and the possibility of renewing the TU - TAMU rivalry would be a big draw. However, a large B1G TV contract (which is soon to be renewed) and the academic plus of the COC might help the B1G overcome that.
Personally, I'd like to see 8 super conferences of 16 so we have a natural playoff of 8 conf champs to 4 to the NC game...

This really only leaves the ACC with 1 spot to fill. I hate WVU and they add nothing, although they're the obvious geographic and rivalry choice (immediately gets to enjoy their rivalry games with; VT, Pitt, Louisville, as well as rejoining old Big East pals Miami & BC, also who can forget when they smoked Clemson by an absurd volume of points?) So as much as I hate to say it should be them, they probably have a good amount of appeal for a conference that hasn't tried to stretch its geographic boundary east/west.
Personally I'd love to see us take TCU. Would provide trips into Texas for recruiting (good for football and basketball), plus almost all of their teams have improved since joining the Big XII (baseball was a 1 seed this year).
I really don't want to see Kansas because the trip would be awful, and provide nothing from a recruiting perspective and that football team is so atrocious as to make Wake Forest look competent. So no.
Unless we can get Texas for their $$ maybe we could try and poach Kentucky from the SEC since their BBall would fit & provide a regional bonus to Louisville. As well their football program would probably instantly go from bottom rung to middle tier in the ACC.

If shit really goes to hell you know Notre Dame is going to want a full spot which really only leaves the ACC with one spot to shop out. Texas is the obvious choice 1, but talk in Austin at least is them having far more affinity to the west coast and the Pac 12 than the east coast or SEC.

They will lobby to get Texas, which probably means Baylor & Texas Tech go too which really leaves only one open spot. If Okie State doesn't go with Oklahoma into a mythical SEC situation, they probably manage to nab Kansas for bball or TCU because of the added games in Texas. THere is no reason the Pac12 would or should consider Boise, BYU etc.

I would think that the main reason for any decreased chance of injury would be the amount of time that starting players would presumably be playing against a good P5 team compared to directional Michigan. This isn't always the case, (see 2012 vs. Marshall, every game ever vs. ECU), but in general a game against a mid-major or FCS team will see more use of 2nd and 3rd string players and starters are more likely to miss long chunks of playing time closer to the end of the game.
I could actually get behind orange uniform parts if they looked like this.

Geez I didn't realize my Fam Guy reference would spawn all this. Loved the first 2 films, didn't care for the 3rd, haven't seen world yet. As far as Terminator goes loved 1 & 2, liked 3, didn't care for Term Salvation, haven't decided on Genisys yet.
