At first site, the new web site looks functional. I'll have to play around later. As far as Lou Merritt, I actually think he was one of the good guys. He just had his hands tied. When we had problems with RV parking around campus, he at least took the time to listen. Just nothing ever happened.
I'm not saying anything regarding how he's doing his job. I'm saying that this argument about Beamer not being an aggressive recruiter is silly because there's no way to quantify what he does and doesn't do. You can't look at it based upon who he didn't sign because you are limited in how many you can sign. In the end, yes, the onus is on the top of the pyramid, because, in situations like this, shit falls upward. But because recruiting is hidden behind so many doors created by the NCAA, the truth rarely, if ever, is revealed. Coaches can't talk about specifics so all you're hearing is one side of the story. And even then, the story is never complete because everyone will only recall what they want to recall. So any and all evidence is second-hand at best and must be taken with a grain of salt, not as the end-all-be-all truth of Virginia Tech recruiting.

But in just two episodes, we have ourselves four very interesting, very damaged characters, and what this show will do with them is far more compelling than high-speed rail corruption. Remarkably, this show is shaking off the Yellow King. Last season's MacGuffins nearly swallowed True Detective whole. To his credit, Pizzolatto has adjusted. Look around you: Carcosa is everywhere. It's the people that change.
Just curious how long have you followed VT recruiting? If you followed it at all during the 10 win streak etc why do you think our recruiting has never been on par with our ranking/national recognition until recently when we've been a bit over .500?
This all day long. One #source and FB doesn't know how to recruit, give me a f'ing break. The number of recruits and players who love FB like a father have me skeptical of this being the reason.
Has nothing to do with one incident. Has to do with multiple reports from top recruits talking about their interactions with the HCs. The only time you see them mention beamer is when they are on campus and even then sometimes there is no mention. You do realize that when you are the head man the blame falls on you, especially if you don't address the issue and let them linger for long periods of time, right? If you think frank beamer spends 50% of the time on recruiting that nick saban, urban meyer, dabo swinney, etc etc etc do then there is no point in even talking about this anymore. He doesn't, period.
My favorite part of this argument is the fact all evidence of this is drawn from one incident and not a history of situations where this occurs. We openly know of one situation in which "Beamer did not visit the recruit in his home" and in which many seem to believe that must be the reason why said recruit did not commit to us because it came from #SOURCES. But sure, let's just blame him for every big recruit we lost because he must not have visited them either even though we don't know one way or the other if he did or not. With that argument, we can also say that it would help if Torrian Gray said hi to a recruit's parents since that apparently cost us a recruit. Or why isn't Bud promising to do cartwheels for every recruit? Doesn't he want to land those big time guys to anchor his already stellar defense? This is just trifling stuff really.

Some people just don't think criticizing the program is acceptable I guess. Every program has areas they can drastically improve on and recruiting is obviously one of ours. Recruiting elite players today just seems like it's mainly about HC involvement and like it or not there is a reason we aren't landing many elite recruits unless their name ends with Fuller, and yes there are many other reasons as well.

Well, I hope you're all right. I agree that it could be unfair (?) to compare or judge this offering by last year's standards especially after only two episodes, but all I know is I don't like it. Don't like the actors, the style, and how I had to try hard to watch the whole of both episodes because I wasn't interested in the people or the story. Entertainment enjoyment is largely a matter of taste, I guess this just isn't up my alley.
My observations about the website:
1. My complaint about the swag sucking has been rescinded. I have picked out my new golf hat
2. Love the sub pages for each Chapter, especially since my chapter doesn't have a website at all (Fauquier)
3. Love that every member is listed. This makes it much easier for me to single out people that I know should be donating, and aren't.
I really like the VT logo at the end of that trailer

He's 70, and that's when he has always said he was planning on stepping down. The changes that have been made are more about moving the HC forward than trying to redo everything Merritt accomplished.
The Hokie Club as a whole needs a swift kick in the pants and a complete overhaul on how things are handled. We need dedicated people in Blacksburg out trying to get donations to the athletic department, and not representatives around town whose only incentive to try harder is to get a better priority for football tickets.
After reading articles and posts about the change at the Hokie Club going on I fully believe Merritt was forced out, though respectfully given props for service rendered.
After episode 1, I was dissappointed, but willing to give it a go on its own merits. Just didn't think it was fair to compare it to the brilliance of Season 1 after just 1 episode.
I will say I was happy with that decision after episode 2. it was the first feeling of...maybe discomfort is the word? that I definetely had watching season 1 (I mean that in a good way).
I think there is a good story to be told here over the remaining episodes. They are doing a good job building the darkness in these characters. From the opening monologue about being locked in the basement and literal darkness, to the additional hints about McAdams characters past experiences in a cult (which I would assume was against her will), and Tim Riggins having some serious issues about: his sexuality, his mother, his time in Iraq/Afghanistan.
The case itself was not that interesting in the first episode, but now I really want to see what is going on there too.

We need Frank, Bud and Lefty sitting in more homes with more recruits and their families. Sadly that's just how the recruiting game is played these days.
I'm not saying they don't do it. I'm just saying they need to do more of it.
Byrn was well suited for this role. Always made the catch, could get open underneath. A great 3rd down and 6 blanket for Brewer.
Knowles has straight line speed, not necessarily quickness. And his hands have been an issue in the past.
I've never seen Newsome catch a pass that wasn't a WR screen. Not a great sign about his route running or hands.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was Bradshaw. I'm sure Burden has a good idea already who it will be after summers (unsupervised, ;)) pass skeletons.
I'm REALLY hoping that after a full offseason under Burden's tutelage, Joel Caleb can surprise us and become a weapon in the slot. The guy has all the athletic ability in the world and great size at 6'2", 200. for WR. I think he just struggled picking up the nuances of the position initially and then got shuffled around a bit. Really hoping he can take a big step forward this year. Beyond that, at least one of either senior guys in Knowles and Asante should be able to contribute. I still expect to see Bucky split out wide and in the slot a ton too. Very interested to see how we uitlize Malleck, Bucky, and Cline this year.
Ask the people you are playing with for advice - then you can blame them when they beat you. The harder you swing the farther from the fairway the ball will land. You need to find that magic zone where you drink enough to not over think your swing, but you can still stand straight enough to hit enough to hit the ball, and stay there for the entire round.

you can make excuses for anything if you want, but the results are what they are. Go back and look at the offers to top tier players over the last 5 years and how many did VT land. I'm not saying beamer is an awful recruiter, but honestly based on his age/health/habits recruiting can't be a priority for him. During the closing stretch of NSD this past year he was not physically able to even talk to the recruits to potentially sway some of them. While that happened every other HC involved was able to. Again the results are out there for anyone to see if you really want to see the truth.
