Well there s a LOT of programs who thought the same thing; are much bigger programs than us and they DIDNT get better... Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, USC, and then a bunch of others that just stayed mediocre- Maryland, Washington, OK state, Miami, and the list goes on. The thing is, unless you get one of the top 4 or 5 guys, and those guys aren't going anywhere, then I think one is more flirting with screwing up the program with dramtic changes as opposed to hoping the one there now, Beamer, will make the right smaller changes within the program to be successful.. Our foundation with gray, searels, foster and even loeffler is good to excellent- you chg a had coach and many of them bolt too.. as long as we see improvements, and recruiting talent helps too, then stay the course
Except Facyson wasn't healthy against OSU. The problem for OSU was that I don't think they figured that out until halftime.
ECU knew he was injured from the get-go.

Did they recruit well through normal means or were kids enticed with the easy path to academic success because they were told how "easy" classes were and good the "tutoring" was? Was recruiting good or were Butch and staff giving out promises to kids and parents that were shady?
No doubt Davis can coach, but he is a slimebag that can't win without cheating.
So no matter the results they had on the recruiting trail and the field all the cheating subverts that success and any belief that they achieved anything on their own. IMO

What you say is true. And VT has a history of losing to teams they have no business losing to. Not a good recipe.

I mean yeah, but as much as we love to rag on them about that, it doesn't change that they were well coached and recruited well.

I think this is Loeffler's make or break year like Vtkey mentioned. Last year was plagued with injuries and a QB who didn't even have a full spring under his belt. Plus true freshman at a just about every skill position. With a healthy offense and guys having more game experience and experience in Loeffler's system there is no reason we shouldn't do well this year. Our schedule is set up for it. We do have GT in Atlanta but that's in between FSU and Clemson for them I believe. Plus I think we have a longer week to prepare for them. (correct me if i'm wrong on any of that) If we don't get to 9 wins this year I think we should all be very disappointed. If we are in the ACCCG or a close second from being in it (only due to GT pulling something out and not dropping both FSU and Clemson and having the tiebreaker against us) and can win a respectable bowl game we should be happy.
Also as mentioned above we were very close in all our losses and had multiple turnovers in most. We should have won pretty much all of those games (we were in position to at least, save Miami). We correct those mistakes and we should have a good year.
Just gonna dust this ol' thing off.
I concur that the Hokies should kill Purdue. I don't hate anyone or any team, even in the sports sense, but if you do, Purdue doesn't seem worthy of expending that kind of emotion. But Hazell is a Buckeye, and so I pull for him, but to win in W Laf you almost need a gimmick. Joe Tiller came in with the spread (he called it "basketball on grass"), he had Drew Brees and they had some success. Since then, not so much. Hazell is trying to install a Jim Tressel type of team over there, but he's doing it with 2 and 3 star players. Purdue basically competes with the upper part of the MAC for players, So, Va Tech will be way, way more talented than Purdue on both sides of the ball.
But they do have a history of rising up, especially at home, and shocking someone (unfortunately, it's been OSU a few times). It's a game you take seriously, and as long as you don't turn the ball over, the superior talent will win the day.

OSU probably has the largest fan base of any team we've played in the last few years so it makes sense we would get good representation except for maybe bama. But probably the majority of them don't know how to use a computer.
