I hope that today's PC was enough to sway Trevor back. I know it's a very small chance but it would be awesome if he did.
Oh nice, didn't see them. Was Thompson in the stands?
#TEAMDESSERT
Sorry, I was just trying to riff on #5 on the list.
I was there too, right in front of him (side note: I took every opportunity I could to photobomb pictures. It may or may not be frowned upon, but I had a ton of fun with it). His answers to just about everything were hilarious. I asked him if, given the opportunity, he would dance on the WVU logo again and he said, "No, they'd string me up." Just a funny, energetic guy. SUPER stoked with this hire.
My wife concurs with your last statement!! REALLY refreshing
That was awesome - every second of it. For starters, Whit entered the Cassell to Enter Sandman. I loved that they let us down on the court and hung around for a while to talk with us. I got to talk with Whit for a couple minutes about how Students experience the athletics department (let's face it, we feel like we've been tolerated at best for the past few years that I've been here at least) and the Hokie Club. I mentioned that he could see for himself the effect free pizza has on students and he said he'd consider doing something similar to educate the students about the Hokie Club and make sure they know it's not only about football tickets.
By far the one thing that stood out to me was the simple fact that he was there to meet the fans and he'd shake every single hand and begin every conversation with a smile and, "Hi, I'm Whit." Felt like we were just talking to a normal guy who loves his job.
Don't toy with our hearts.
I was riffing off of #5 on this list.
kid reminds me of Manute Bol BUT hes got game!
What a great way to restart the program - go get him Buzz
Also saw Trevor Thompson, Kendall Fuller, Shane Beamer and his family, and Kyshoen Jarrett
Montell Jordan - This is how we do it
Did anyone else catch Buzz's offhanded comment about building a new arena to have space for more retired jerseys and championship banners?
no it didnt
I sat next to Trevor Thompson at the event. He didn't stand the entire time. Never clapped. And, he didn't even get up to let me go past him - I climbed the seats to get a good seat. He left when Buzz sat down to take questions from the press.
this is how rumors get started...
I must've been near you then because I remember that question too. When I heard that I just started laughing. I agree with you about his past. As Jimmy V said, you have to remember where you came from, where you are and where you're going. Buzz clearly remembers where he came from and is humbled by it.
Did this actually happen?
i also thought it was a great move to bring bimbo coles and ace custis to the press conference, shows reverence for the past while we plow headlong into the future.
"Things of the Past" was on the iPod earlier today. And, Tim Barry's song "On and On" is one of my favorite covers that Frank Turner performs.
my favorite moment:
i was in line to get a photo with buzz and a guy in front of me asked if he would foul up by 3. buzz could have easily answered yes or no and moved on but instead he started asking a bunch of questions to clarify the situation. how much time is left? is it an in-bound or rebound? where is the opponent in-bounding from? the guy answered all these and buzz answers he would foul up by 3 under 5 seconds once over timeline. then he pauses and asks Home or Away? the guy says it doesn't matter and buzz says Oh I think it does.
I loved this. Willingness to interact with fans and clearly thinks a lot about strategy.
in terms of actual press conference - when Buzz talked about his past, how he came from nothing and is now coaching in the ACC. it was really moving - I'd encourage those who missed it to watch when whole video goes up on hokiesports.com
It is now up on hokiesports.com for anyone that missed it.
i consider them the best band that ever walked the face of the earth, the live shows were beyond intense. their singer, tim barry, is doing some really cool folksy/country type stuff now. you should check it out.

The only negative I see in this hire: It breaks VT's streak of hiring coaches/administrators who are both younger and taller than their predecessors.
