Ehhh, this may be a touch of an overreaction. I don't think this is as big of a loss as a few of the others we've lost recently.
Other side of that coin: Best conference in the country (same reason Ole Miss, Vandy, etc. can lure in some good football players), some of the nicest practice facilities in the country, low expectations, AD willing to work with you/give you time, solid recruiting class coming in, if it stays together... did I miss anything?

Let this kind of national sour grapes about us actually investing in the sport be the driving force behind our awakening. Talking heads are pissed we aren't following the script and staying bad. Screw em all.
It has the potential to be a good job, but it's really hard to argue that it's not one of the worst gigs right now: tough conference, zero history or tradition, remote physical location.
What jobs in the conference would you consider to be worse?
How are this year's makos? Are they as smart and fast as last year's? I would like one of those, please.
I also plan on joining the hokie club for the first time at some point this year, it's always been something I've thought of, but seeing that we have an ad that isn't ok with being second tier and isn't afraid to spend money to win has pushed me over the edge. So hyped about the hire and the future of hokies athletics under whit. Gives me a lot of hope for when beams inevitably steps down

Huge college basketball fan here. I expect to join the Hokie Club here in a couple weeks for the first time. I will also be sending in some sort of thank you letter or email to the athletic director/department for showing that they finally mean business with college hoops.
I goggled his previous matches against the OSU kid, both losses. It looks like they met in lighter weight classes while in HS , on the national scene. The OSU kid has great offense and is excellent at leveraging his body. If Devin can counter well and stay aggressive, he might be able to take this kid out of his game. But in the one match I watched, Devin lost 9-2, or 10-2. It was pretty decisive...narrowly escaped being pinned. We all know how hard it is to get to this stage, I hope his body can handle the strain and pressure. I can't wait to watch! Go Hokies!
So nothing of significance. I think our compliance people are on top of things, so something like this wouldn't (hopefully) happen at VT. Thanks for the info. I haven't had time to read up on a lot of these side stories.
A recruit left after a visit and took some Marquette gear with them and same recruit had some travel expenses paid. I think I read in another article it was cab fare to the airport. I wouldn't be surprised to see Buzz hire Scott Monarch at Tech
I will be upping my Hokie Club level at the first of the month and I will be putting down the deposit for basketball tickets as well.
The other article said it was a secondary violation.

Marquette spent close to the most. I don't think our expenses were as bad as you seem to think.
Any idea how serious Monarch's recruiting violation at MU was? Marquette fired him because of it, but I don't know the whole story. I can't imagine it was anything very serious - did the NCAA do anything or just accept Marquette's self-imposed punishment?
Also 170 lbs is not very much on a 6' 7" frame.
