He has at least acknowledged the one tweet I sent him regarding the discussion Brian started regarding improving the Basketball Environment, so I imagine from time to time he will spend a few minutes perusing different Hokie sites to see how he is doing or at least have someone do an azimuth check for him from the AD staff. Seems very in tune with the electronic media which is a good thing.
Congrats on your "hoops wiz" tag!! haven't heard that story either..sounds pretty cool though
I used to work at Hibbet Sports in the mall in C-burg (they've since been shut down) but whenever Hokie athletes came into the store the manager would get them to sign the wall in the back. When I started, Michael Vick's signature was on the wall and the first thing i noticed was that it looked like it had been written by a righty because the direction of the writing went at a sharp angle up and to the right. I 'knew' he was a lefty so I assumed it was forged. I guess it was legit. It's probably been painted over by now, sadly :(
Cheese with my Rail maybe....whine and Zima are for Wahoo's
So you think Whit reads TKP too? How awesome would it be if we got a Whit Report to go along wigh the Bitter Blog and everything else?
I made my first ever donation to Hokie Club last night. I'm encouraging my friends to do the same.
When I was trying to think of coaches we should be looking at his name didn't even come up for me because I figured he was unattainable. Way to go Whit, that was an impressive hire. And it was so quick too, I can't wait to see if he flips any of his big Marquette recruits to VT.
There is a story about when the team was forced to an indoor practice in a basketball gym at the 1998 Music City Bowl because of the torrential downpour that was Nashville that entire time, game included. Some of the seniors were supposedly ragging on him about being such a superstar so he promptly went to midcourt with a football and threw it through the basket left handed, he then proceeded to go to the end of the court and throw it through right handed. Apparently he actually is more a righty, but his left arm is stronger, which allows him to throw the football farther.
Maybe I'm late to the party on this one, but did anybody else notice he's signing with his right hand? I didn't know he wrote righty
TKP presents the SGA Maroon Effect shirt sponsored by Sam Rogers? Sounds good to me!
Folks Whit's heard our call for better basketball and raised us. It's time to ante up people
Whit's background is in fundraising, which is essentially sales. He is currently painting a vision for our athletics and asking everyone to chip in. So far he's been nothing short of brilliant. I'd bet the presser on Monday will continur this trend and get more people to open their wallets. If there is enough support coming in then higher prices might not be necessary and if they are, people will pay more to see a winner. I've been beyond with Whit so far; I'm going to be tuning into the presser and I'm not a bball fan at all.
No, the dog ate my homework, I can't get a job in my major field (soc & psych), I have to pay off student loans, I can't stay on my parent's healthcare after 26, they aren't giving students front row seating at Cassell and Lane, they won't play Na-Na-Na, can't yell stick it in, they keep ramming hokie respect down my throat, I have 2 young kids, I live in NOVA and it's too far to drive, we don't play 3 thursday nite games a year, I got busted for having a mini bottle in the stands, the rich alumni need to give more, ..zzzzzz. Would you like cheese with your whine?
That is part of the reason, he is already asking for the unbelievers to join the Hokie Club and donate. Now, if only I could get credit for getting you all to sign up...
Retweeted and signing up now. So excited. The only thing that could have put the cherry on top of my basketball world yesterday would have been loluva becoming the first 1 to lose to a 16. A Hokie can dream.
Hoops Wiz. It's official. Congrats, ltrepeter, and thanks for all the work you put into basketball.
I'll eat my words from the other thread. I wasn't thrilled immediately with this, but the more I hear about the guy the more excited I am.
;# 16 CC taking it to LOL uva go CC ! Oh Well. Go Tigers !
Excellent article ! Thank You. I've been a VT fan for over 50+ years and I can't think of a Hire of this magnitude , To me , Dooley was the first big name VT ever hired. Buzz Williams is a lot bigger when it comes to the era in which we are in now. Our New AD may be biggest hire ever at VT as far as the future of sports at VT. Two big hires in less than three months really amazes me...Go Hokies . Now everyone Needs to back VT with their support ..
No confidence in Foster?
Well, I guess tonight worked out for you.
There's no doubt the ACC is one of the best conferences in the country and loaded with legendary coaches which had to be a huge pull for Buzz. But Boeheim and Coach K might be gone soon(ish) and nobody is unbeatable. Buzz is only 41 and still has a lot of room to improve. During this first contract aka the next 7 years, I wouldn't expect a league championship, but after the building years (years 1-3) top 5 or 6 would be a good expectation. 9th would be selling him short outside of an off year.
If Buzz is here to build a program all the way up from scratch, there's absolutely no reason that we can't contend for ACC championships, Final Fours, and national championships over the next 30 years. I hope he's here to stay because this is a school that will rally around a winning program and has all the resources to make a serious run in basketball. His persona, blue collar and hardnosed but also personable and goofy, are perfect for VT and a basketball culture can be built around him. Buzz and Tony Bennett may be battling for a long long time, and I could see it taking precedence over football at some point, especially if LOLUVA doesn't fix their football problem.
for a college bball and hokie fan this has been the best day of my life
It is begun.
Are we going to have any left after Whit takes it all?
Can't wait for 2014 season:

Thanks, just woke up so I appreciate you pointing it out to me. Salut, Joe.
That's sad if that kind of wall got painted over. That's the kind of thing that you cut the drywall out and put it in a picture frame and hang on a wall as art if you are a Hokie fan.
