As an Indiana fan, I want no part of Tom Crean anywhere near any of my teams. The man can recruit, but cannot coach in big and/or close games worth a damn. If we're serious about competing and succeeding, we can do better than Tom Crean.
Don't forget about Michael Young. He the HC at Wofford (going to the dance after beating Davidson). Grew up in Radford (local ties).

Factual analysis by people that what the hell they are talking about, I know because my son plays for VT.
French, Joe & all the other guys breakdown of film always mirrors what the coaches are telling the players.
No bias at all, if a player plays like crap they detail it in the film breakdown & explain what should have done.
I can tell you for a fact that a lot of the players are starting to check this site for comments about their performance knowing that it will be constructive critique, not random bashing as with most other sites.
These guys really like that, they want to be better. I always recommend the Keyplay to every parent & player I talk to.

Archie Miller at Dayton is a candidate tht I really like, and doesn't seem to be getting thrown around a whole lot. Think he would be great fit.
I'd like to throw Stony Brook's Steve Pikiell into the mix. Yes, his overall record is a little underwhelming, but his past few seasons have been fantastic. This year, they made it to the America East championship game again, and almost made the tournament. I really like what he's doing up there, and I think he could be great for VT.
But doesn't he strike you as a great possibility for Whit's shocking signature hire a la Tuberville at Cincy. It's definitely a stretch but it's so perfect.
PJ would be a huge stretch, but I'd love to see us go after some former NBA Coaches. Look at what Larry Brown is doing at SMU.

Then a sporadic and unspectacular career with 5 and 10K's until my shin splints/stress fx's got the best of me.

There are others out there but I feel that outside of the last 6 I listed they're all pretty realistic. I couldn't make a top three list but I really like Dave Smart. I would put my money on Capel, Lonergan, or Menzies.
With the Big East practically falling apart and diminishing in value, are there any coaches we can possibly poach from one of those programs?
For what it's worth doesn't AB only do football? I don't know about McFarling but I thought AB was just football.

I think this may be just a rumor i heard, but Larranaga took Miami's offer to GMU AD Tom O'Connor and said "Match this and I'll stay," (it was not a substantial raise iirc). GMU said no and have been stuck with Hewitt ever since.
I do not think VCU will make the same mistake. Plus, the Rams are now in the A-10 which is a high major basketball conference so the "better competition" argument doesn't carry as much weight as it would if Smart was still coaching in the CAA.
No way, Hoiberg was born and raised in Ames. That is his dream job.
As a current student, I am fully against a new stadium. Uva did it because uhall was a piece of crap and I believe it housed their practice facilities as well. We have a state of the art practice facility, so I don't think we lose recruits because of cassell. As a fan, who actually decides on attending games because of the venue? I mean, if cassell had major viewing issues I understand, but there are literally no bad seats in Cassell. I have never felt my experience was diminished due to how old the building is. Cassell is a fantastic place to play and watch games, no need to spend money to build a new arena at this point in time.

He did a tremendous job of bringing attention to the basketball team on the website. Given how bad they were this season, that's admirable work.

I like that now that we have the Whit everyone's just kind of assuming crazy is a forgone conclusion. This means that if what happens next isn't crazy it will be crazy. No matter what happens we're in for the crazy. I love love love it.
