Just to add a little - The Pitt game was a double OT if you take their points at the end of regulation (48) there would be a 24 point difference and the average would end up being 12.6 for those 5 games.

That was my take on it too. Sounded to me like he was the guy to beat, but unlike with LT or Tyrod (his Jr/Sr yrs) where the competition had long since been decided.
Good observation. I can't remember where but I heard Moorehead say that he doesn't particularly care to recruit kids that are not wr's in high school and that he really likes wr's that play basketball (hence why he would not give up on Isaiah Ford)
I can honestly say, I won't mind if he gets another year. I think every coach should get at least three years to prove themselves.

The question is "what is early"? To me, most QBs who think "playing early" means before their r-soph year are delusional.
However there seem to be a lot of delusional kids these days who have been told way too many times that the sun revolves around them. Basketball is full of them and it's creeping into football especially at the QB position. We're going to see a lot more of these middling grad student QB transfers everywhere going forward. And I'd say the odds of a 4th or 5th yr VT QB transferring out within the next 4 years is really high. It's great when you have the need, but it won't be so great when depth is an issue. Just look at Texas Tech's QB situation right now...a hot steaming mess. It's going to be yet another challenge for coaches to deal with.

The biggest issue with last year's class is that I'm pretty sure every single one of them played a position other than WR in high school. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure each of those guys spent significant time at QB and maybe even a little RB. It's not that we don't believe they're explosive athletes. They are, and at some point I really hope to see them on the field as major playmakers. However, playing receiver in college is hard. It's even harder if you haven't played much of it in high school. We'e all getting so excited about the new guys because they're not only explosive athletes, but they're also more polished receivers who have repeatedly demonstrated the skills and techniques needed to succeed at the position on the major college level.

(and doubled as) a martital aid device. Had it for about 10 years before my dog chewed it up.
Stanford needs to start catching the ball with his hands. He dropped too many balls last year because they bounced off his chest. That's unacceptable. Yes, he had some good runs after the catch late in the season, that we all remember, but he consistently secures the ball against his body.
Knowles job security is questionable. Yes, he's fast, but it's well documented that he does not adjust well to deep balls.
Byrn played well last year, and I expect him to continue to do so.
Deon Newsome's name has been mentioned quite a bit. We saw the athlete Carlis Parker can be vs UCLA. Logan raved about Charley Meyer last year (who by the way, is one of our biggest WR's on the team). Joel Caleb / Chris Mangus will probably be back at the position. Isaaih Ford / Jalyn Bradshaw / Kendrick Holland will be competing.

Non-Hokie Hokie gear: Mountain Hardwear this year decided to do a bunch of their jackets in... well basically orange and maroon. I bought three different types -a water proof, an insulated-fill and a 'tweener. LOVE rocking them down in the ATL as an understated way of supporting VT. Go check 'em out.

Newsome is a guy that I would keep an eye on.
Thanks for the article, I love reading bios on the guys we're recruiting. Someone we definitely want: polite, humble, and strong as hell. He does say he wants to compete for early playing time, and McLaughlin should have that LT locked down for the next few years, but if he can play I'm sure we can find a spot for him.
If I could offer one small criticism, it's a little awkward to read that with every sentence on a separate line.
Guys stop forgetting about last years class, I expect it from sites like bleacher report that have no idea what they are talking about, but not you guys. I know Parker was at least mentioned, I have a feeling they really like him. But we also have Deon Newsome (a really exciting player), David Prince (another dynamic player in High School), Something tells me Caleb could still factor into this, and I think Smilling and Irick are still around right?
I know it is fun to get excited about the freshman, but something tells me at Newsome and
