We're not in a serious pickle. We have lots of options. A few months ago, before Durkin, we were all gung-ho about Ford winning the job or redshirting while Leal took the reigns. Now that we have multiple QBs that could win the starting job AND we're still going after more, it's creating the illusion that we don't have confidence in any of the possible candidates. Especially after Leal's less than impressive output against UCLA; which is almost worthless because look at what happens when the starting and established center, kicker, punter, running back, or lock down corner leaves a game for many other teams. They don't always wow everyone.
It's the offseason and signing day wasn't a disaster, it wasn't amazeballs but it was really good. At least wait until we have a chance to find out that the transfer QBs don't come to us and Ford, Leal, Durkin, and Co. aren't able to hit the broad side of the bleachers before we start saying the sky is falling.

Don't we also need WRs who can work with a compressed field (inside 10 yards of EZ) and make catches in traffic? Wasn't the inability/lack of confidence in this (other than Coles) yet another reason we had to settle for FG instead of TD on many occasions? (Without that threat, we tried to run it in, right?)

Well, it's something.
I think the biggest problem we had against Duke was getting the ball past half-court for the first 10 minutes. They were running that high-pressure full court man defense that VCU loves and with only one true ball handler it's tough to beat that. Having a guy like Adam Smith (even though he's undersized on defense) or Mueller would help a ton. I love Will Johnston's hustle, but when your 2-guard can't dribble it's tough to beat a press. And then once we did beat the press nobody was moving.
JJ is definitely coaching like his job is on the line, and the guys are giving a lot of effort for him. Comebacks start on defense and so do turnarounds for a program, but I just think it might be a little too late for JJ to save his job.

I ran into joey van zegren the other day and told him I thought he put in a pretty good game about uva and it really seemed to put him in good spirits. I can only imagine what kind of heckling they're getting and how stressed out they are about the results, their recent close calls have proven that they havent given up and they're playing hard its just....honestly the cubbard was left pretty bare
My point is we don't need to throw gas on the fire support the team and hang in there. I'm willing to bet joey expected me to heckle the shit out of him but I'm sure he was relieved and happy with the compliment

Shit there was a point last year where JJ was considered one of the best basketball hires ever in our inner circle so let's hold off the doom and gloom for a little bit and let the coaches do their thing

Not true. Durkin & McMillian are both highly regarded at least equal to Glennon. I don't remember Randall being all that highly rated out of HS as a QB - maybe as an ATH. Ford is underrated because of the way he handled his recruiting.

I've had the 8350 for a couple years and I've been very happy with it. No 3D, but that's not a feature I care about. Very versatile as far as location and good image quality. Also replacement bulbs are (relatively) cheap.
I'm not absolutely sure on the numbers anymore, but individual event wins start at 27 points, and 2nd place gets 24, and then it goes all the way down to 1 point for 21st place. You compete in the prelims, and then get seeded for finals. So top 8 are in the A finals, 9-16 in the B, and 17-24 in the C final.
Now, this is the first time the C final can score points. It used to be that only A and B teams could score.
Also very important, and this gets confusing, but if you're in the B final, the most you can score is 17 points for winning the heat. Even IF you swim a time that beats some people in the A final, you can't score out of your heat. So the last place in the A heat will score more than 1st place in the B final no matter what their times are.
Relays score as double points and each school can only field one relay. Relays are huge point grabbers. There are 5 relays swam over the weekend.
Lastly, diving is scored alongside swimming. VT enters this meet with a pretty good lead over other schools. It's weird diving is counted, but think of it like track and field. Two different sports really, but it is what it is.
Every team competes, so there's no real head to head. So beating other teams head to head is great, but outlier teams like Duke can beat a few of our guys and take points that we'd really like. That's how it works when everyone is scored equally.
Sorry, it's very confusing at times, and MattB can help out too. He's far less removed form college swimming than I am and he was also a VT swimmer.
Can you explain how the meet/competition/scoring works? I looked around for a bit and have no freaking clue how these things work. Admitted swimming novice here.
We haven't had much positive to look at this season, but I really appreciate this post. Baby steps might not be much, but it does look like we are (somewhat) moving in the right direction.
The wirecutter is a site that may help you (this links directly to their projectors). They do a good analysis of all the reviews out there, and when possible get their hands on the item themselves.
At the very least, they have all the sources at the bottom so you can dig into the research yourself.
Baby steps in the right direction are better than laying down for dead.
ltrepeter2000, I have to applaud the effort it took find a positive among all the gloom and doom of the basketball season. The basketball team is bad, but there are some positives, and J.J. has certainly made the team more competitive over the course of the last 4 games. Thanks for the insight and updates on the teams (men's and women's) over the course of the season.

I probably shouldn't even bring this up, but Ike Whitaker could challenge for this as far as VT QBs since the MV7 era. His expectations were pretty high and he never even started a game and had off the field issues as well.
