There's enough there of each and every one of them.
One may need a little more throwing coaching, another a different weak spot, etc.
One thing not mentioned there which is very important. Which one can "get it" and learn the holistic view of the offensive system, it strengths and weaknesses and how to use it to exploit the defense.
I think that is where the battle will be won or lost. The effective use of the offensive system.
I missed the opener and have to wait until I can catch it to start watching this season.
I tried to start after it and have it fill in blanks for me but, it didn't work.

# | Bitter blog - Sunday links: Barnett, Babcock and a bad proposed rule change well, I think what VT would be missing if Lefty wasn't in Blacksburg would be two high quality QBs named Ford and Durkin. One of which committed to the Hokies without ever having traveled to the burg. And being in the running at one point for the top QB recruit in the nation in this last year, and again in this year.
I agree that Ralph may have been a great hire but I think the new coaches re-energized the schools image a bit. That it wasn't just those old guys in Blacksburg. I think everyone loves Bud but we can all see its Gray and Brown that most recruits are getting chased after. On the offensive side lil'Beams was bringing the young guns but was definitely helped with Moorehead, Lefty and Grimes going out on the trail with him. With Ralph I think he commands a lot of attention and recruits like his system but it wouldn't have change the perception of what's happening at VT, which was to connect better to young recruits in a world of social media and online recruiting.
Haven't seen the latest episode, but the episode two weeks ago was fantastic.
How many students are showing up for the chalk talk these days? I have to imagine the student interest is at about an all time low right now.

# | Bitter blog - Scot Loeffler's thoughts on the 2014 signing class I don't think it's so certain that Ford wins, based just on that comment. In reading the reviews on Ford, Durkin, and McMillian, it sounds like all of them fit that mold, with just subtle differences between them. It will be an interesting spring and summer, for sure. No matter what happens, I think we'll see Loeffler be able to come up with some truly creative schemes when these guys are ready for primetime, whenever that may be.
Quite an interesting group competing for the starting QB job - Leal, Motley, Ford, Durkin, and McMillian. I don't remember ever seeing this many QBs competing for the job.
We'll see three of them - Leal, Motley, and Ford - during Spring Practice, and I believe our 2014 starter will come out of that group.
Durkin and McMillian certainly have the physical skills to take the job in the Fall once they arrive - the only thing holding them back will be learning the playbook. I wonder if Lefty has already sent them a copy to study until they arrive?
These are some real great analogies about Ford and Durkin. Spot On. Looking forward to the McMillian piece!

"We want to have a guy that can first throw," he said. "Then we want a guy who has the ability to have the athleticism to be able to run the football, be able to escape."
Ford wins that set of priorities. But the devil is in the details. Spring will be interesting between him and Leal. Then in the Fall the full on QB competition will be on. Gotta Love it!

I know there is more talk / likelihood of him going to another position than the other QBs, but I wonder why McMillian's name hasn't been thrown around more when discussing the Ford, Motley, Leal etc race. Just based on film and measurables, is he behind in the potential pecking order?
Well, it was Miami....
Assuming everything goes like it should, we're on a collision course with Canada to advance to the gold medal game.
He looks like the best fit for this hybrid offense.
It really all depends on this o-line.
Quick release and poise. I might be rooting for this guy.

Well we would have gotten Aaron regardless of Lefty and Shane was there as well, what am I missing. I know Ralph is older than Lefty but I don't see things being that different from now.

I would do dirty, dirty things with those helmets, and not at all regret it the next morning.
If you are taking this to follow a strict Mt Rushmore philosophy then I would think you need founding fathers. Then I would an order like this:
1) Loria
2) Gene Bunn
3) Beamer
4) Gray (with Billy Hardee Jr. only just missing out)
If you are talking about just simply the best of the best of DBU then I would think contemporary players somewhat trump the older players because the speed, skill and technical understanding of the game is vastly different than when the founding fathers played. I would then say:
1) Flowers
2) Hall
3) Williams
4) Kyle Fuller
There have been a lot of great ones outside looking in Pile, Macho, Charlton, Kam, etc but I think these 4 performed better and most importantly more consistently than any of the others. The first 3 I think are non-debatable but I put Kyle on the list because I feel that not only was he a shutdown corner for VT, he, unlike the others, being so naturally good at what he does was able to play whip and stopped GT cold twice almost single handily (watch that first game again. Kyle is a wrecking machine against the 3-Op offense). I would argue his tackling and coverage, especially to knock balls down, is perhaps the best I have EVER seen at Virginia Tech. As a coach you had the luxury to either leave him on his island and play ten man football, or use him to pass rush, spy or play out of position to wreak havoc. Dude was a beast of dependency.
