Definitely Bruce. I remember talking to an ex-Duke OT at a party shortly after Bruce left VT, and he said the one game his parents went to was when he had to go up against Bruce in the game and it was an embarrassing nightmare. I never looked it up, but he said he thought he gave up 4-5 sacks, and it could have been more.
It's been said by some that I'm a hothead. As it appears Smart is too, he needs to work on that. At the same time though, not cool by the fan. Mistakes were made on both sides.
I was hoping some posts like this would show up. I'm a fan from 1994 on so past thig biggest names (Beamer, Smith, Loria etc...) some of my Hokie history is lacking

"So. Apparently this is gonna happen." is not a topic- just a hook to try and get people to read it. That's something 2nd rate websites do, and I think we all agree TKP is not 2nd rate. People here would read the thread already, so why not actually have a real topic, so they know what it is they're clicking on? It's what you're supposed to do.

Mike Widger - an undersized LB who hit like a ton of bricks. All-American in his junior year. Played in the CFL and was part of two Grey Cup winning teams.

Even if VT is mentioned I seriously doubt they will be made to look like a bad guy.
a) I believe the issue was grades
b) Beamer publicly tried to get him in
c) Rodriguez is a class act and wouldn't do that.
This and the "BIG INSULT" thread really are hyperbolic. You should frame this as a positive for a guy that went through hell and back to capture his dream of playing D1 football. Having a movie made after him is something to be celebrated.
How? He didn't qualify academically. We don't bend rules. I don't think it's possible to make Beamer's program look like bad guys. Next topic.
One general comment - if you're going to allow yourself to get worked up over something that hasn't happened, and may not happen at all, then how are you going to act if something really does happen?
And here are a few specific comments -
1. This may seem to be nitpicky, but it's a nitpick about facts - DR was an enlisted man, not an officer.
2. DR didn't meet Tech's entry requirements, and didn't want to go to summer school to get what he needed. That was his choice, not ours.
3. Clemson was able to get him into their school without having to take any additional classes, and make a place for him as a walkon on the football team. I assume he's doing well in both areas.
Don't flatter yourself or VT. Read "The Outpost" and you'll find out that there is a lot more to Rodriquez's life than football or him wanting to go to VT (amazingly his desire to be a Hokie was not even mentioned). The kid and the other 52 guys who withstood a 400 man Taliban attack are truly American heroes.

Actually Edsall and Locksley have known each other for a long time. This is why ex-VT QB Ricardo young transferred to UNM before going back to the Twerps.
BRUCE #1 without question. So many other great players already mentioned, I'd also add Coach Torrian Gray as one of my all time favs. Two picks in VT's biggest win ever.

I posted something about this guy a while ago because he goes to my High School. That doesn't sound so special until you consider that my 2001 graduating class was all of 25 people. Went out and saw him play over thanksgiving and he is monstrous - but wayyyyy to skinny to post up with physical guys. I do believe that VT has offered him.

# | Bitter blog - Would you rather see a 9-game ACC schedule or a yearly ACC-SEC matchup? I like it in addition to the in-state rival for those that already have one, and rotating for all teams. Make it the last Saturday in September. Make it the Chick-fil-a ACC/SEC Challenge. It HAS TO BE home one year, away the next, never neutral site.

They are a non-profit entity and charge only a nominal fee to parents. They in turn pay for coaching, equipment, food, travel, lodging all with the aligned university athletics department knowing full well that these players are being sent to them by someone not under NCAA limitations as school coaches are. The children, yes children, are constantly pushed to play only for the team that their 7v7 handler wants them to go to because hey, they just provided you with everything stated above.
hmm... what does this sound like? There's a word for it... ah yes, booster.
All these things provided to kids have monetary value and are designed to give a kid both a leg up and commit them to a specific school. Is this really any different than SMU in the 80's. Someone outside the program pays kids to play at a single University.
This is a terrible idea.
I still think the kid ends up looking the bigger man. If you feel the need to call a 19 year old kid laying on the floor the N word, that makes you a pretty little man. He's lucky he didn't get punched. I am not sure we should be holding athletes to a different standard than fans when it comes to simple human decency. You want that crap go to Europe where they have to play soccer games in empty stadiums because the racism is so bad.
He admitted he said something he should not have. Not sure why it would be so far fetched it was the N word

All the teams with yearly SEC matchup already vehemently don't want 9 conf games and I can see their point. With SEC match ups it could see where some teams could opt for a constant partner while others rotate.
There's so much talent in SEC country right now I think it would help recruiting.
The reason we made the move was money, prestige, and non-revenue exposure. Back in those days, the Big East was just about on par with the ACC in football. Miami was fresh off their run from 2000-2003, where they went 46-4 and never finished worse than #5 in either major poll. We had played for a MNC, losing a close one to FSU. That same FSU team was the last one to make any real noise from the ACC. They were still decent by 2003, but the ACC hadn't had a top-10 team since 2000.
The ACC made the move to bolster football, to bring it from barely-BCS quality to hopefully top-tier. If FSU and Miami had stayed relevant, we may very well be talking about ACC supremacy right now instead of the same SEC crap. We wanted to make the jump because there was extra money involved, and the fact that it would greatly benefit our non-football sports as well. We were football-only in the Big East until 1999, prior to that I believe we were in the A-10. The opportunity to get into the ACC in all other sports was huge, and look at what we've parlayed it into:
- Basketball team went from being consistently the worst in the Big East to perennial postseason participants in the ACC (albeit in the NIT most years, and now we've regressed just about back to previous form)
- Men's soccer made the final 4 in 2007
- Women's soccer made the final 4 in 2013
- Baseball has twice advanced further than they ever had been before except one season in the '50s
- Softball made the NCAAT 4x in a row with Tincher, including an appearance in the WCWS. Also, Tincher no-hit the US Olympic Softball Team
- Track and field has had numerous individual national champions, something I don't believe we had ever achieved before
- Wrestling has become one of the top teams in the nation
